So I went to a girl geeks tea party today. One is held every month, with a different theme. Today's theme was music, with a focus on awesome women. To be honest, I wasn't that blown away with the music (although Helen Arney, a scientist turned musical comedian, was awesome as always. One of my favourites by her:
Statistically I love you).
There was talk about Ada Lovelace and how she wondered if computers could use musical notes as code rather than code, and Delia Derbyshire, who worked as a sound engineer in the 60s and basically invented electronic music as we know it. She helped come up with the dr who theme tune, and looped music, cutting and splicing the tape by hand. The talkers themselves I wasn't that blown away by? And there wasn't a lot of actual music played, which made me sad.
So, I was wondering if people would be interested in sharing music they love/have been listening to recently? I have a music tag
here which has some recs (including a rec list dedicated to female vocalists), if anyone is interested in checking them out.
Some stuff I've been listening to recently (I'm not going to embed videos because that is a lot of effort, but links got to youtube if possible:
Little Talks, Of Monsters and Men Hey Ho, The Lumineers Falling Down, Birthday Massacre Nobody move, Nobody Get Hurt, We Are Scientists Steady As She Goes, The Raconteurs Nothing new, but some good ones.
