Mmm, duck. A good Peking duck anywhere stateside runs about $20 easily. Did they serve it with Chinese bread? You can kind of cheat and make a sandwich with that to avoid using chopsticks...
Haha, I'm really frugal, but so are some other American friends and acquaintances. I tend to finish just about all the food on my plate, and if there's anything left worth saving, I box it up for later - the thought of just throwing away a big piece of perfectly good chicken or steak sickens me. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do believe that if you're gonna have an animal killed so you can eat it, you should actually eat it.
I don't believe in wasting objects, either. Just a couple weeks ago, Lisa couldn't believe I actually went through three boxes of documents that we were getting rid of at work and saved all the binder clips (many of which had only been used once, on those documents). She said we didn't need them because we had several fresh boxes in the drawer. I guess she's forgotten about all the times we ran out of those things, did NOT have any in the drawer, and Maegan and I practically had to beg cubicle-to-cubicle looking for some to tide us over for a few days 'til a new shipment came in. And dude, they're made of metal, I think they're built to be used more than one time on one document for a few days before they get thrown away. True, I don't have to pay for them, and it's not like I saved the company a ton of money by spending 5 minutes collecting binder clips, but it's the principle of the thing...I can't stand the thought of wasting anything that's almost brand-new.
Heh, between me (who rescued office supplies she tried to throw away) and her boyfriend (who boxed up the other half of her dinner that she tried to throw away when we were out with the gang the other night), she'll get used to it!

Yeah, America is definitely (overall and in general but with many generous exceptions...you included :-)) a generation of wasters. I think its cause we are more concerned with consumption than with investment (savings). (LOL...I had to add that b/c I learned that in my Econ class!)
I know what you mean about the food. It's TERRIBLE to waste so much, at least this is how I think due to my upbringing. Sometimes, I wish we had a fridge or something here, so I could just bring the food back and save it for later.
But then, you know how that sort of thing goes. And my mama is much worse than I am. She'll keep anything! if it can be used at any time in the future (and not just the near future, lol). I guess I used to think it was crazy, but it actually makes a lot of sense if you have organization with it. Of course, if you plan to travel around a lot, I guess lighter is better in terms of stuff. But I reckon that someday soon I will have to settle my self down.
Speaking of which, how is life after college going for ya? I know that it is finally catching up with me...the fact that in only one more year I'm destined for the full-blown "taking a break from college" work force. And what do I want to do with my life? That's anybody's guess right now!
Love ya Jenny and keep in Touch. (I'm still looking for ya to show up on my doorstep in Beijing! :P)

Hehe, I tend to keep anything that I think I or anyone else might want someday, even if I haven't touched it in years.
I still don't have a full-time job, which on the one hand is fine because I did want a break, but on the other hand makes me feel like a failure because everyone else is more impatient for me to get a job than I am.
I don't know if I can get up the money and plans to come to visit or not, but I've still got some time to work on that. BTW, what are the rules on guests? Would I be able to crash in your room, or is that not allowed? Also, how much time will you have? I don't want to wander around too much all by myself without anyone who knows at least some of the language, but I don't want to monopolize all your time and take you away from your studies and activities either.

eh. It would be no big deal about going out and stuff. I'm not sure about crashing in the room. I have no problem with it, but they make guests sign in and out when they come by and when they leave.
I'm not sure there is a way around that. Guess we'll have to wait and find out.
