To put an end to the 'Best of Series 2'
picspam entries and to finish before Christmas, I finally went through the remaining episodes. Had to abandon the LJs again for the last few days, barely keeping up with reading my friends page every now and then. On the bright side the project is now at a stage where we get a rest for the remainder of the year, there won't be any work done on my flat and all the Christmas presents are accounted for. All I need to do now is wrap the wrappable presents and I'm finished for the holiday. :D
Does anyone know if BFBS in Germany has the same programme as Radio 1 in GB? I realized yesterday (or was it the day before?) they announce themselves as "Radio 1". Then I could tune in to listen in to the DW special on 25th.
Uhm, this was also the moment when the words "Doctor Who", "Christmas Special", the voice of Catherine Tate and finally David Tennant took me by surprise and I was happy not to have crashed the car in shock. ;) Really, since when are there people I have even heard of on the radio, giving short statements about something I even remotely care about? They have to warn me beforehand! ^^ Passing a (small) car accident round the next corner made me laugh though... which sounds somewhat bizarre.
2.09 The Satan Pit
While TIP has the most perfect one, this episode has one of the most quiet, insightful and somewhat depressing scenes. For a rare moment it goes beneath the surface and fully builds on its characters. I'm including the moment Rose finds out about the Doctor here. For once with all the doubts and hopelessness spreading, it isn't so clear that everything will be allright in the end.
(on a side note after rewatching the scene just now: what kind of relating terrible news is "oh, he's gone, fell into the pit and said your name"? Not so consoling to be able to interpret it as "He said you name and THEN he threw himself into the pit" or "He fell, desperately screamed your name but you missed him by mere seconds.")
2.10 Love and Monsters
Nowhere near my favourite moment of, say, 2.09. Out of the known characters, this is mostly a Jackie episode and she's absolutely hilarious in this scene. The same with Elton, poor guy, so helpless and completely at the mercy of his "target". :)
2.11 Fear Her
Oooh, this is another episode that has so many funny, cute or in any other way special scenes! Still I couldn't find a way around the ending, the last carefree and joyful moment before the devastation of the series finale starts to announce its presence. It's a goodbye in the most energetic way, probably a bit over the top, but it sums up all the adventuring quite nicely to remind us of all the time that has flown by. And it has random hugging. ;)
2.12 Army of Ghosts
One of those cliffhangers where it's unthinkable to do anything else than continue to the next episode as far as possible. How much worse can it get? Daleks and Cybermen? Interesting possibilities! How will the Earth survive, how will the Doctor, all of the Tyler familiar and by extension Mickey pull through. And wow, Mickey had character development off-screen and he's finally up to fight side by side with team TARDIS.
(on another side note: in retrospect I found it interesting to note the introduction of a slightly different version of Torchwood's theme in this episode - never realized I had heard it before Torchwood)
2.13 Doomsday
What? I have to choose between the three scenes at the end? And I have to watch them again to make the decision? *sniff*
All the meshing screaming when Rose is falling notwithstanding (I always tend to forget this because the scene I have seen a lot in vids but the sound? Always bores right into me - heard it only for the fourth time now), the hard choice was between the wall scene and the goodbye at the beach. In the end I decided on the wall scene for the following reasons: The music alone sends shivers down my spine, but the whole scene, every element of it, still gives me goosebumps. The first time round it reduced me to a helpless puddle of devastation. They could've finished me off with the beach scene. I'm glad they didn't and made it into a much needed epilogue instead. It's bittersweet really (emphasis on the bitter), yet the wall scene is just... it's one of the most heartbreaking scenes I have seen in any show.
I'm ready for the Christmas Special now. Nothing better than refreshing the ending of the season to prepare it for new episodes blending into the whole of the show. Nontheless I still wish they would've left out the bride in Doomsday.
Wow, it's been 170 days since the last episode (according to the voiceover at the end of Doomsday)?
I'm off, trying to catch up with some entries from the last week AND wrapping Christmas presents (including
seti_drd's in a way :) ) now. Have a wonderful Christmas! :D
