Not sure I could place the phrase myself -- probably 70s film of the type I avoid -- "carry on films"? :-)

It's amazing how Caine manages to sound Mockney. Rather like Joss Ackland sounding unconvincing as a south african, even though he IS south african.

Just a general irk. Still, I am amused by people who can't do their own accent. Marjorie from "To the Manor Born" appeared in "Prisoner Cell Block H" as an English poisoner with an English accent that would make Keanau Reeves wince. Then again, my lancashire accent isn't up to much these days. (I think I will call my accent mid-pennines and see if it catches on).
