I went out to Nisqually this morning for a weed removal project, we spent maybe an hour-and-a-half pulling hemlock and ivy, and then I went birding. Among other things, I saw a great horned owl nest! It was in a big, old cottonwood snag a ways off the trail near the river, right in the sun. There were at least 2 big chicks in it, they looked like muppets with those flat, round faces and fuzz. I'll go back this weekend and see if I can get a better look. I found a photo that shows pretty much what they looked like, they seemed to be watching the people watching them. I can just imagine the parents hiding in a nearby tree giving us dirty looks.
