Shadows & Light

“Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art.”

- Leonardo da Vinci

I went to bed with two portraits waiting to dry and woke up around 2 a.m. and decided, "Hey! I can do another layer!" With great happiness, I've done that now and I'm very satisfied with how they're turning out. One is a watercolor Selkie and the other is a portrait in acrylics. I used some color combinations on the acrylic portrait that I normally don't use, so that's a win.

Aria and I FaceTime often and we like to do art together while we chat. Today she told me the latest drama from school, talked about Shelly's birthday which is a few days away, and then we talked about shadows and light while painting.  We were working on these today:

Do you ever wonder how Leonardo da Vinci knew how to draw anatomical drawings of internal organs? Do we know that? Did he have a book? Did he have a cadaver? We watched a British TV show recently (I think it was British but it could have been Scandinavian) - anyway, there was a character in the show who was crushing on a female police inspector. He was an artist who drew the skeletons and internal organs of animals and the first time the detective went inside his house, she was creeped out by it and wanted to get away from him pretty quickly. But it turned out he wasn't a creepy guy at all. There was a good reason that he was making those drawings, although for the life of me, I can't think of it now. I remember that he didn't kill the animals. He was a big bear of a man who was very shy and carried a lot of sadness in his body.

Maybe one of you can fill me in on Da Vinci because I'm way too tired to research that right now.
