accident (LONG post!)
I'm at my dads, and yesterday, shadow ran out in the road after 2 foxes, and got hit by a car :(
It was awful. He hit the side of it, it was SOOO loud. I was with my brother, jamie, and he picked him up, and took him indoors (luckily, we were right near the house)
Shadow laid down on his front, and his breathing was really raspy. We could see that he had some small cuts on his head, on the right hand side, and a few little cuts elsewhere.
I went into total panic, i was crying and shaking :( Managed to call the vets (which is close-by too) and they said they'd take him straight away, so i called my friend, who drove to dads, we took him there, and they saw him.
The vet shone a light in his eyes, then listened to his breathing, and his heart. She was writing notes on her computer, and i saw that she typed something about his lungs and heart sounding dull. His temprature was ok, and she told me she was worried about him having blood or fluid on his lungs.
I put him on the floor to weigh him, and he crawled off, and collapsed :(
The vet asked me to go back out to the reception, and fill out a consent form, and then to leave him with her, cause she wanted to do x-rays to see baout the fluid, and that she'd phone me when she had the results.
A few hours later, she rang, and said that he has a little blood on one of his lungs, but she wasnt too worried about it, but she thought he's either broken, or dislocated his shoulder, and that if he had, he'd probably have to have an operation.
ANYWAY......... i had to wait for her to call after they'd done more x-rays, and she said that his shoulder was ok, just REALLY bruised, and swollen, but when they did those x-rays, they found that he fractured his sturnum (breast bone) and this has nicked one of his lungs, and made a little hole. Air had leaked out, and gone under the skin, BUT it's ok.
Basically, the hole in his lung seems to have healed already, and he just needs to rest up so he doesnt open it again, the blood on the lung'll sort itself out, as will the fractured sturnum, and the little cuts and stuff.
*sigh* fuck.
It was fucking awful. I've never been so shaken up before.
Worst of all, i felt rotten cause when he hit the car, i shouted out "SHADOW!!!!!!!!!!!" really loud, and when he got up, he walked over to me with his head down, his tail between his legs wagging, like i'd told him off, with that "sorry!" look on his face, then he laid down :(
Also that he got so badly hurt, and that he's gonna think i just left him. He's got real problems about being left alone (maybe cause he's a staffy, they're supposed to be really clingy, maybe cause he was a rescue dog)
Some fireworks went off earlier, and i was really worried about him, cause i know he's scared of them. It's horrible, all this waiting.
So, thats been my weekend.
