Where is Louisiana's national guard?

I've been really depressed about the whole hurricane thing for the past week. The more I hear about the media catching on to the outrage of it all - the racism and classism, the drain that the occupation of Iraq has put on resources for disaster relief, the federal- and state-level bungling - the better I feel. hammercock has some good media-related commentary, and of course Democracy Now! has very useful coverage of the various issues. We have a number of displaced people from Louisiana here in Tucson, including some students who are joining classes at the U of A, and many local organizations have been raising money and mobilizing volunteers to help out in various ways. At Women in Black we made a couple of impromptu signs about the resources issue. I made one last week that said "Where is Louisiana's National Guard?" I can only hope that this whole disaster will wake more people up to the disaster that is Dubya.

In happier news, I went to see Laura Love perform last night. Hot woman bass player with a fabulous voice - yay!

Got stung by a bee today. Ow! It still hurts - but I don't seem to be experiencing any allergic reaction to it.

tathren's sick (get better soon, t!) so we didn't go to the Boys R Us show tonight, but I'm happy to make it a relatively early night after my Women in Black meeting. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun meeting as usual - wonderful women, great potluck food, a nighttime dunk in the swimming pool, and planning for our camping trip next weekend. But that turned out to be enough excitement for me this evening.
