I haven't posted in a while

I haven't really found time or been in a writing mood.  At least not on livejournal.  And with my new job, I'll be doing plenty of writing, photography, video editing, etc.  So... but here's the skinny.

I enlisted into the Marine Corps.  I started training about two months ago and went through about 4 interviews to get the Public Affairs job I wanted or I wasn't going in (or so I told them).  So far I'm doing great.  I started from scrap physically and am already up to running 3 miles in fairly good time.  February 23rd is my 21st birthday and the day I leave to Paris Island, South Carolina for boot camp.  After that, I'm going to Ft. Meade Maryland for 3 months of Public Affairs school.  So I'll get to see Boston, Washington D.C. and hopefully New York.  After that, I'll either get stationed in San Diego or Okinawa, Japan.  If I get screened for broadcasting, then it'll be Japan for definite but no matter where I get stationed, they'll send me all over the place.

I know that it seems kinda extreme... going from a desk job to the friggen military, leaving home and going into a place that will most likely be a complete culture shock.  I know what they're gonna do to me there.  And I know what's going on in the world and all that I'm going to see.  But I surprised myself at how capable I was of more than qualifying for the job I wanted and how capable I was at working up to the physical strength I'm at now in such a short time.  I'm still young.  I'm going to travel.  I'm going to be strong and healthy.  The GI bill will pay for me to go to film school when I'm done... or whatever the hell I decide to do.  The benefits outweigh the fear I have by far.
