Birthday tomorrow - 19 years old, although I swear I drop a few years mentally between now and then. Somewhat glad that we're starting new projects, running around finishing them off is a hell of a lot more stressful than starting. Plus I can goof off a bit more and spent time drawing and on my game.
Before I go on I'm getting real annoyed by this persistant twitch under my left eye - and now my right's started! Argh! And I've got the zit equivelant of a small pea stuck in my lughole (mind you it's gotten a bit smaller now).
I've found one of the greatest little gems for the gamecube ever! Baten Kaitos is a wonderful game - I was dubious about the card based gameplay at first, but it's just sheer genius. I just need to remember what I'm aiming at before I use something.
The characters are alright save one - Xelha's VA sounds really wooden in conversation, and her delivery during battle is in such a way that it gets kinda annoying after a bit. Kalas is the obvious reluctant hero - to the extent that he has to be dragged back by Gibari and Xelha at the first sign of mortal danger (he might as well be kicking and screaming). This gave one of the best lines I've ever heard when he saw a giant robot beetle and decided to run like a little girl (ok, slight exaggeration). After being 'persuaded' to stay and help the other two they get the response: "If you get me killed I swear I will come back as a ghost and haunt you forever!" Pity the audio is a little tinny with the voices.
This game reminds me so damn much of Final Fantasy IX, from the pre-rendered backgrounds looking eerily simlar in style to the exclamation marks indicating where you can look at objects. It even goes as far as having book monsters - who practically gave me a heart atttack the first time I picked one up. Then again the library in question spooks me out no end. The only thing I'm seriously missing are FMVs, the opening one is real eye candy and I'm hanging onto the hope that Namco have actually put some in-game cos I think they would really give some added oomph to the story, and some scenes might benifit from being in cg rather than in-game graphics. I must admit the game's an absolute monster. It comes on two discs, which is a first for the 'Cube if I recall correctly.
