Space Station is to be "de-orbited" (pushed into atmosphere to burn up) in 2016. WTF! What a waste of time and money!

I agree with the long term goal of the US space agency--the colonization of Mars. By in the near and intermediate term, NASA should be using robots and probes for exploration. Designing and building such machines would provide earthly benefits: the lessons learned could be applied to terrestrial machines, resulting in a revolution in robotic technology.
