i once read somewhere that the original meaning for the term angels was ‘to bear witness.’ god, like many great artists knew that there is very little point in creating something if there was no one around to see it. so, first he created the angels to marvel at all his creations. early on, the angels didn’t really do much else. they were not the messengers of god, they did not go out to do his dirty work like rain fire and brimstone on anyone, they just sat there and sang praises to him for how beautiful and wonderful all his creation was. i guess if you are going to be the supreme being, you are going to have to have the supreme ego.
