i've been making nestle toll house semi sweet morsel chocolate chip cookies for years now...years...probably since i was 8 with adult supervision. tonight was my first time to make them in arlington, va without an electric mixer. we have some hand mixers (turn this crank and the two pieces at the bottom turn into each other) which i've used on various other occasions to make brownies, other types of cookies, cakes, etc. well, tonight i was a little lazy and did a stir/beat combo...turns out that is a bad idea. the beating part is what makes the consistency. completely obvious, i'm sure some of you are saying.... so they are pretty flat. after the first copule of batches i added more flour to try to thicken the batter... the next batch came out with some pale spots which i guess is places where the flour didnt thoroughly mix in...anyways at least they look a lil thicker than their pancake like predecessors... so the lesson learned is to beat when the recipe says beat and not stir!
