He's the type that may not change. I have learned that I have to be more outgoing when my family is involved. I can't bottle up the fact that they need me to speak what's on my mind rather than hide it from them. Eventually, stress will cause me to explode when I don't want it to. There are some things that are worth mentioning.

True. He never did talk much about himself. Since you are closest to him, perhaps you can offer a way for him to talk without feeling like he's obligated to. What I mean by this is take him to a neutral place and talk about the little things and then when the opportunity arises, talk about what bothers you and go from there. The trouble is see is that the two of you don't talk to each other at all, but rather talk at each other, which isn't good for either side.
