Apparently, someone got the bright idea that I should actually be awarded my BSN. So, er, it seems I'm a nurse now! Not that I didn't work hard for it and don't deserve it -- I do. It's just WEIRD to have gone from "applying to nursing school" to "I'll be going to nursing school" to "I'm a nursing student" to "I'm a student nurse" (there's a slight difference in semantics there, and a HUGE difference in thought process/confidence there) to "I'm a nurse" and finally on to "holy crap I'm a nurse now."
I graduated Sunday, summa cum laude. The night before, we had our pinning. That was a nice ceremony. It's a shame they only let us have 4 guests; it would have been nice to have my husband's family at that. I received an award for Professionalism, which was "Awarded to the graduating student who best exemplifies the attitudes and behaviors associated with being a professional (lives the profession's values and code of ethics, accountable for own work, serves as a role model for peers and others in the profession, and committed to lifelong learning)." It came with a plaque (I just typed plague, OOPS), and even better yet a check. :-D
We went out to dinner afterwards. Two of my classmates and their families were supposed to come along, but they got there and didn't want to wait, so they left. Although I missed them, this worked out really well. We got in much sooner with a party of 11 than with a party of 17. Mike's family was there, as was my mother and one of my brothers, and my favorite little MSW student was there too. :-D I had a wonderful time. Mom also gave me a graduation present -- a bracelet and a nurse mug. Yay! My first "nurse" thing. :) Also got a card from A.
Sunday was graduation. It was to start at 11, but we had to be there at 8:30. Lame. I skinned my knee on the sidewalk, because I decided to head to the drugstore quick to get some claritin for the sneezing I was doing. Had to be bandaged up by classmates, because when I injure myself, it can't ever been something minor. I was bleeding all over. Naturally, while we were doing this in the parking garage, the Assistant Dean and Dean of Nursing had to walk by. I said, "Just practicing some nursing skills, carry on." Graduation itself was fine. Our class speaker was just fabulous. The reception afterward kind of sucked. We left quickly. Mike's Dad, stepmom, sister and her fiance all came as well, so that was really nice. :)
Mom, Matt, Mike and I went home, relaxed for a bit and then went to Unos for an early dinner. Had much fun. We just relaxed more that evening and watched Enchanted, which was cute. Yesterday, the four of us went in to Boston, did the touristy thing and had a nice dinner out. How weird is this? One of my baby brothers bought me a lobster dinner. SCORE!
Finally, I have an interview tomorrow, at the Miriam Hospital in RI for an OR position. Woot. :) The nice thing about RI is that they let you work as a graduate nurse, until you've taken your boards.
