A/N: This chapter is a little artistic with grammar and punctuation. The others won't be this way as far as I know right now. I'm not sure how long it will be, but I do plan on seeing this through to the end.

He came with his class. It was an overnight trip. He stayed back from the others to be near her. Even at eighteen he was suave, sophisticated, urban. Why would he want to be with some mountain girl? She was special. He gave her his number. He promised to come back.

They met in secret. He convinced her it would be okay. He would protect her. She called him. She rarely called him. Her voice was strained, frightened. He needed to come now.

She was far along. Too far to undo it. He could see it move within her. He could feel it kick from inside her.

She couldn't hide it from her family. They were furious. A decision would be made after the birth.

A boy. It was a boy. They didn't want her to keep it. If it were a girl, it would be different. Boys had no use in their world. He couldn't take care of it either.

His heart ached when he took the boy to the orphanage. She said she understood, but he knew it hurt her too.

They promised to be together. She would run away when she was old enough. They would be together, forever.

Diego awoke from his dream. Bloody tears streamed from his eyes. The reminder that Mia was not here with him echoed through his empty apartment. It was all his fault. He took a swig of coffee, a blend of bitter reminders and dark memories. He put his visor on and headed out the door.

This feeling, this guilt, it ends tonight.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it so far. I have most of the story planned out now. I'll post the second chapter hopefully later today. I need to give it one more edit before I post it. Its in a different vain than the first, and I want to make sure its just right.
