I need to vent, so please bear with me. It's been a bitch of a week, it's only Wednesday, and its not going to get any better. So, here we go....
I know this is technically old news by a good month and a half, but I just stumbled onto rumours that the character of Jack Harkness might be recast for the anniversary episode/s of Doctor Who. Has anyone heard anything more about this, than just rumours?
Quite honestly, I can't see anyone other than John Barrowman as Jack, unless they cast a much younger man to perhaps play Jack as a young man in his pre-immortality days. Otherwise, I just can't envisage anyone being able to give Jack the vibrancy and life that JB is able to give him.
Okay, I admit I am biased. I love JB, and any fan will know how much he loves Jack, as his own original character. I can't imagine it not hurting badly to see someone else taking on that character. Really, if this is what Moffat is going to allow to happen, then I would rather give Doctor Who a miss altogether. I just really do not want to see someone else as Captain Jack, and I intend to email the BBC to make my opinion known.

In other news, apparently footage of our illustrious Prime Minister Julia Gillard ripping Opposition Leader Tony Abbott a new one in Parliament has gone viral and drawn international attention.
For those unaware of what it's about, our two glorious leaders were having a verbal spat over the issue of whether suspended Parliamentary Speaker Peter Slipper should be sacked from the position, and Gillard told Abbott that he didn't need an inquiry to see misogyny, he just needed a mirror. She yelled at him across the floor of Parliament for a good fifteen minutes, and reduced him to utter silence.
Now, I would like to point out that I can't stand Abbott. I think he's a smug, nasty little man who is more attack dog than politician, and he has a terminal case of foot-in-mouth disease. He is forever saying the wrong thing at the wrong moment, and this came hot on the heels of one of our idiot shock jock radio personalities making a moronic and highly offensive comment that the PM's recently deceased father 'died of shame'.
Not acceptable, and Abbott should have had more sense than to regurgitate that turn of phrase yesterday.
However, those who think Gillard is wonderful and a beacon of light for women everywhere because she verbally slammed Abbott for his idiocy need to see her rant in context, and hopefully realize that she wasn't actually championing the female cause against misogyny everywhere.
1. Gillard was defending her decision to vote against the removal of Peter Slipper from the position of Speaker.
Why was there a vote? Well, it's come to light that apparently Mr Slipper is of the opinion that female genitalia looks like "shell-less mussel meat in a bottle" - an opinion that he shared via text to a former male advisor who is currently taking action against Slipper for alleged sexual harassment. Various other vile opinions about the value of women in general, and some women specifically, were similarly shared.
So, Gillard berated Abbott (her political rival) for being a misogynist, in defense of a man who crossed the floor to take the job of Speaker and give Gillard an extra vote in Parliament, and who has since resigned formerly from that position after publicly admitting that his texted comments about women and female genitalia were indefensible.
Was she championing women against a proven misogynist? Debatable.
Was she defending her very slim Parliamentary majority by declaring her public support for Slipper? Absolutely.
This is a very convoluted matter. All I ask is that anyone who is currently idolising Julia Gillard for her verbal outburst at Abbott take a moment to look at the bigger picture. Abbott is a dinosaur who needs to be replaced, but Gillard's intentions are hardly pure-white, either. Both of them are a disgrace and an embarrassment to Australia, and the sooner they're both voted out, the better off we'll all be.
