..And not of the American Football variety. I've landed in London, after an epic 19 hours in the air. More travel time in total, if you count from the moment I left home to when I actually arrived at the YHA. I can't say exactly how long it's been, because the time differences have screwed my head around a little.
I've had a wander around the place that is home for the next 11 days, until I move on to Cardiff, and so far I have just one complaint. Two convenience stores right next to each other, and not one has a hairbrush for sale. Seriously, WTF? I tell you, I'm going to look like Cousin It's weirdo sister tomorrow until I can find somewhere that does sell them. I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy one at Melbourne Airport yesterday. Or the day before. Whenever.
On the bright side, I am showered and refreshed and feeling considerably more human than when I got off the plane at Heathrow.
Tomorrow, I intend to either do a basic London tour on one of the tour buses, or make my way to Camden. Or both. I need to get to Camden, to the place that sells Dr Martens, because I only brought my sneakers with me and I need a nice, shiny pair of shoes or boots for going out. Initially, just for the concerts, but I scored a ticket for Wicked on Wednesday night courtesy of the hostel, and I can't go looking tacky in my scuffed old sneakers.
I've been pleasantly surprised so far with how much more affordable basic necessities are here, compared to back home. A bottle of Pepsi here costs the equivalent of about $2.40, as opposed to the average $4.50 back home in Melbourne. BIG difference.
Restaurants so far don't seem any more expensive, either. Just the ones I've seen so far seem to be pretty reasonable. I think I am not going to have any trouble keeping to my budget.
Tomorrow - shopping, hairbrush, Oyster card, and not necessarily in that order.
The concert is a week away, so I have plenty of time to psych up for it. I think I'll be sufficiently pumped by the time it comes around. Right now, I am still trying to stave off any degree of jetlag. I think I will be in bed nice and early tonight. Like, within the next few hours.
Signing off for now from London... And I am sure that will sink into my tired brain eventually.
