The day after apple Picking.. Apple baking? Apple Canning?

Oct 03, 2007 08:06

Last night I passed out, finally. Apples were happily waiting for me to deal with today.

apple picking went fine. :) We had a really good time! We managed to find the "stand on the side of the road" just fine, and managed to locate the "orchard is across the street, 'turn this way and that way" and acquired some apples there before we accepted the fact that we wouldn't have enough time to get as many as we wanted that way. Fortunately for us, the nice man at the "stand on the side of the road" offered us our pick of any varieties we wanted from these massive wooden bins (like what the grocery stores use for watermelons when they are in season) for the same price as if we picked them. :) I got about 2 bushels and my friends got mostly the same amount or more. We are in agreement that we must go back next year. :)

I brought home mostly delicious York apples, and about half a bushel of Romes. Now, for some apple crisp and possible some canning as soon as I get the courage up to try it. lol Any tips for how to remove the jars from the water bath without a jar lifter? I still don't have one and probably won't unless I find one to borrow.

So much to do!
