Lisa's mom requested her to sing at her home church of 1st Reformed this morning. Lisa did a wonderful job of singing "No More Night" (you tube it if you want to hear it - David Phelps does it best). The music director, Lyle Kroen, is this burly man that looks like Santa Claus and was dressed in a bright Christmas red shirt. I loved watching him play - he does it so effortlessly. I have attached a picture below (he's the one on the right).
It was nice. It was nice to see some of the older people Lisa grew up with along with friends she knew from youth group and such. For me, it was the hymns that took me back. The pastor was okay, but I got bored with his sermon.
What surprised me is how the old hymns came back to me. The Doxology, which I haven't sung in years, and We've a Story to Tell to the Nations were like old friends. I found my harmony and sang boldly and loudly.
It was a little piece of home for me.
Here's a couple of new pictures of Kara in her new clothes that were originally bought for next week's trip with my parent's to "celebrate" the right wing fundies' daughter's graduation from homeschooling. Kara wore them today to church
Anyway, that's it for now. I just wanted to get that written down before I get to the real job of trying to put on a happy face for Lisa and her mother for Mother's Day. We decided to create an egg bake, with cinnamon rolls, juice, and milk for a Mother's Day dinner. We just didn't feel like paying the prices and fighting the crowds today.
More later...
