Having just seen the end of Young Frankenstein last night, I have to ask: in this post-smoking age, what has succeeded the smoking of cigarettes as a signal, in films, plays and on television, that two people have just had sex? This is parodied in YF, of course, but it seems that in many films over the years the impression that we are given, during the couple's post-coital smoke, is that, after sex, EVERYONE smokes. Now that smoking is going the way of Walkmans, pagers and VHS, what will take its place to signal to an audience that two people "did it"?
