Verdict Handed Down

Pretty much what I expected.

Full verdict. (pdf file)

Oddly, what I'm really getting a kick out of here is that people are referring to His Honor, Robert Patterson, as "Judge RPattz", to distinguish him from the other RPattz. Is there a judge out there now with a cooler rep? I don't think so.

It's official: Judge RPattz is cooler than Judge Ito. *

* You know, the dude who was the judge in the OJ Simpson case. Old? Who you calling old? Hey, I could have said Judge Wapner if I really wanted to date myself. ;)

ETA: To clarify, although I felt this had about a 97% chance of happening, a very small part of me worried that the opposite would happen because of the prior approval and praise JKR had lavished on the web version of the Lexicon. That worried me specifically because that's where the really bad precedent would have been; if the creator of a work would have to give up control of copyrighted material any time they allowed someone to create a website concerning that work then that would have been the end of all online fandoms, everywhere, period. In all genres. That's why I was really upset that RDR books tried to use JKR's praise of the Lexicon as part of the basis for their defense; it was really not well-considered, the fallout that could come from a judge taking that seriously as a reason to rule in their favor. That didn't happen, of course, and it's just as well. Justice has prevailed and the internet won't be "full" (so to speak) of former websites that have been sent cease & desist orders from copyright holders.
