I sort of do. Ben is stuck in Hartford, CT until he can get a flight to Philadelphia tomorrow. We ended up booking him on a flight that's actually supposed to be going to Buffalo but that stops in Philly first--don't ask me why, but it's $69 cheaper than the alternative. Ben's idea, not ours--he wants to minimize the expense of getting him home. (We're also paying for a hotel room for him in Hartford tonight.) The initial idea of getting him to NYC and then home from there fell apart because NYC is doing far worse than almost anywhere else except the Jersey Shore.
Speaking of which, because Rachel is in NYC and the power went out for the area around NYU, we haven't heard from her for over 12 hours. I've tried calling and texting, and tried calling her best friend and roommate, but nothing. It all goes straight to voicemail, probably because she hasn't been able to charge her phone with no power. An electrical substation flooded and cut off power to a couple of million people in lower Manhattan. So--the Village is without power, as far as we know, and we have to trust that NYU is taking good care of their students. We have no way of knowing anything concrete other than there still being no power there.
A bus just drove by my house! Yay! That means I should be able to go to work on Thursday. What a week! Footage of houses down the shore shows some standing in high water, some simply reduced to matchsticks and floating away. It's very bad. I just hope that everyone who has been displaced is given the opportunity to vote properly in the election on Tuesday, because this could wreak havoc with polling places in a lot of badly affected areas.
