Birthday

Dec 13, 2005 14:02

So my birthday is on the 27th of December. What should I do and who will join me? I know people have to work the next day, so I won't be upset if people are unable to join me.

Let me know what you come up with!!

I'm off that week, so I should be available. That's assuming, of course, I don't end up in a body cast from skiing ;-)

I keep thinking of that old Glen Plake video.

"...and that's the last of Super Skier we shall see..."

why would you end up in a body cast? Are you that bad at it?

Beyond when I went to Seven Springs a few weeks ago, I haven't been on skis in a really long time, so yes, I probably am that bad it. Plus, skiing on parabolics takes getting used to. You turn differently and let the edge of the ski do more of the work.

I might head out to Hidden Valley to take some lessons and run a day out there to get used to them.

At some point I also want to try snowboarding.

And parabolics would be?

I'd like to try skiing and snowboarding eventually. Yay for health benefits kicking in January 1st!

Parabolic skis. Looking at them from the top, they're wider at the tips and thinnest at the point where the bindings are attached - where your feet meet the ski. Old school downhill skis were the same width all the way down the ski. The benefits are that they're (supposed to be) easier to make turns with, and you can use shorter skis. I think cross-country skis are still straight since you'd be less worried about carving turns when going cross-country.

They are pussy skies.

Oh.. give me more edge when I turn mister ski.

*pwttttt*

I remember the days at seven springs when I could turn sideways on a hill, shift my ankles, and slide down the entire hill sideways without catching an edge.

wimps... Give me my atomic A2's at 185cm anyday.

And you remember the days when you walked 5 miles to school in a -50 blizzard, uphill both ways and you were THANKFUL, DAMMIT!. You used to ski on 2 x 4s that were duct-taped to your bare feet!

Damn, gramps is pissed today. Either someone forgot to change his Depends, or whizzed in his Puffed Rice, or both...

Do you have that week off since campus is closed?

Yeah, 12/23 to 1/2 I'm off, then back to work on 1/3. I'm on call until 12/26 though, so it's not all fun and games...

I will try not to have a close encounter with a tree. Thanks for the warning :-)
