I used some malt extract, which you boil with the hops and other goodies. It's my favorite part, the hard boil. Chuck in whatever you want! Here you can see the orange peels and hops, along with the probe of my digital thermometer.
A couple days have past, and it's been bubbling up a storm. It's color has lightened to a could dark gold, which should settle out into something a little brighter. Well, lemme show ya...

Ah, samples. You need to measure the progress of the yeast converting sugars, so you take a sample and measure it with a hydrometer, more on that another time, and this is the nifty tube you use to do it. It's a wonderful color already, I was afraid it was going to come out amber, but my goal was gold. You get to drink the samples afterwards, and this was yummy. The taste of honey carried with it the orange peel, chased by the pale amlts/white wheat malt. Next batch will have more wheat, for sure.
