Tall tale?
The tide brought in thousands and thousands of starfish; they lay on the beach, drying and dying in the sun. A man, walking on the beach, noticed a girl going back and forth from the sand to the edge of the receeded water. He watched as she picked up a starfish and walked with it to the tideline, where she proceeded to throw it as far as she could into the sea. After a few minutes he went over to her and stopped her.
"What are you doing?" he said, "There's no use trying, you're not going to make a difference"
The girl looked at him for a long time. She picked up a starfish. She walked with it to the tideline, where she proceeded to throw it as far as she could into the sea. She walked back to the man.
"It made a difference to that one, didn't it?"
