It came to me that it does definitely pays to have a good amount of EQ. Moving 4 work places since, I do appreciate working with people with higher EQ, humble and apologise at the right time (who doesn't?)
Something happened last night at work (note the word night! we worked till after 9pm last night and will be for the next couple of weeks). My colleagues are driven mad by work and of course I am too, but I do need keep my cool and keep myself rational to see things in a clearer picture so that we do not lose track of ourselves mentally not workwise! Someone threw a temper not directed at me, but in my face. I received an SMS from her apologising her actions later at 10+. Given the amount of work ourselves and the poor quality of work done by the vendor, who wouldn't lose their cool? I would, but I have passed the stage to let work affect me. All thanks to my school Director and Deputy Principal of my previous oragnisation :)
People with good EQs usually comes up good upbringing or through the hard way in life. Both seems to be the same, but in actual fact very different. One is patiently imparted while the other suffered setbacks and heartaches.
Good upbringing can be via family teachings, religious teachings, but the person must accept the teachings in the first place. Hard way in life made the person grows more maturely, but definitely in an more hurtful and "memorable" way. This person will be the target of the most sarcastic jokes and always made fun of at every opportunity coz this person does not possess the EQ to mix well the others. Failure to learn lessons will be damaging to the person's life.
However, its different from popularity. Popular for the wrong reason is undesirable.
