An entry within which is a con post.

So Steampunk World's fair...

Overall I do have to say it was rather nice. The people are wonderful as per usual and the entertainment was delightful. The bits I got to see were delightful anyway. I helped out Karen of KVO Designs with vending. That was also cool as I was paid in swag. : )

The con did have some major issues from the get go that made it difficult for quite a few vendors, performers and patrons during the weekend. Apparently the proper permits were not gathered for room vending and outside performances, as per the fire marshal. This sent everyone that was supposed to be vending within their room all over the hotel. Karen ended up in the restaurant which was both a blessing and a curse. It was the perfect atmosphere for selling and she had quite a bit of space, but we were kind of secluded from everything else. There were two other vendors in the spot with us, and they had the same issue. Plenty of space, but not nearly enough traffic. Luckily Karen made out okay and was not in the red for the weekend. I do believe that if there were different circumstances it would have gone alot better.

With all that being said though, the staff of the event were super helpful and as accommodating as they could be. There was a level of professionalism that made things run smoothly throughout the chaos. Kudos guys, because I heard some of the other vendors yelling at you and I felt so bad. : (

Other than the vending situation I got to see the awesome burlesque mash-up of White Elephant Burlesque and Cosplay Burlesque. Definitely two awesome troupes that everyone should see at some point. I got to see bits of other performers too: Frenchy and the Punk, Platform 1, Katy Kat and a few others I didn't catch the name of. Google them, they're all awesome. : )

Also, I learned early Victorian ballroom dancing. That was definitely interesting and I definitely got dizzy. It was delightful as I got to see quite a few people that I don't get to see very often. Hurrah for friends! I got to crash at Anne's place too which was delightful (her roommate made muffins, yum!). We then discussed further vending ventures, which are all kinds of exciting. : )

Now that the World's Fair is over, I can start focusing on TesFest and the things that I may be vending there. And I have Amanda's cosplay, AND I have that design contest to work on. So I will be quite busy until about August, or September. I dunno, I'm always busy lol.

Good new is though that I've acquired work as a seamstress for a production company, so no more being frustrated with insane bs of the high school kind. I go in, sew a lot, then leave. Sounds perfect to me. : ) And the commute is the same as going to the mall. It's awesome. I'm stoked. So I'm hoping this means that I'll be more likely to work on things when I get home from work as I won't have been obscenely stressed out by things I shouldn't be worrying about.

This may also mean more time for sewing and commissions, but we'll see about that still. If I get through July without a nervous breakdown I'll be a happy camper lol.

vending, ranka, cosplay, sewing, steampunk world's faire
