Name: Umi Ryuuzaki
Fandom: Magic Knight Rayearth
History: Umi is an only child of dedicated, loving parents. She's from a wealthy family and accordingly attends a snobby prep school. So it's only natural that on a school visit to Tokyo Tower, she'd get sent to another world with two other girls.
Thus begins her journey as a Magic Knight. Although critical and outraged at first, Umi quickly comes into her own and takes on the task of saving Cephiro. She was taught magic by and received armor from Clef, and recovered the mythical element Escud, from which Presea made her her weapon. Her elemental affiliation is water, and as she has fenced for years, uses a rapier.
She's told by Clef that the Pillar of Cephiro, Princess Emeraude, summoned her and the other two Magic Knights (Hikaru and Fuu) in order to save the country. They're led to believe that High Priest Zagato has kidnapped Emeraude and they need to rescue her; in reality, however, Zagato and the princess are deeply in love, and Emeraude can't pray solely for Cephiro any longer. If the Pillar doesn't focus his or her attention on prayer for the land, the country will fall apart, but a Pillar isn't allowed to take their own life and the people of Cephiro aren't allowed to kill them either as per the laws of the world.
So the Magic Knights are summoned to save Cephiro by killing a Pillar that has become incapable of doing their duty; and so were Hikaru, Umi and Fuu summoned. They're forced to kill Zagato and Emeraude both, and are wracked with guilt even when they return home to Tokyo. The second half of the series details the attempts of other countries to invade Cephiro and take it over by having one of their ruling class become the new Pillar, but Mokona, the cute bunny thing, summoned the Magic Knights back because despite his cynicism as creator of both Earth and Cephiro, he cares deeply for them both.
There's a lot of fighting all around, and then Hikaru becomes the new Pillar, vowing not to let the cycle repeat itself again. The Pillar doesn't need to be alone to pray for Cephiro: through love, the Pillar is supported and helped by all of the other people in the land.
Starting Abilities: Nothing; she'll have to work hard to regain any of her water magic.
Personality: Umi is far from the typical ice/water based character. She has a quick temper, and frequently overreacts; she openly and without hesitation expresses her anger and affection in turns, and despite her formal and wealthy upbringing is rather casual and rude. In her deepest heart, she is grateful to her parents for everything they've given her, and is determined to pay it back to them. This leads to her being fairly well-adjusted and quick to befriend others, despite her judgemental and practical outlook.
She is intensely loyal, but pretty much oblivious to romantic interest even though she wants to grow up to be a bride. She likes looking elegant and enjoying luxuries, and isn't ashamed to admit it. She also commonly supports others, including perfect strangers, even if that means slapping some sense into them; because beneath her rather reactive exterior, Umi is something of a worry wort. She cares deeply and intensely for the people around her, and is always ready to help.
Mental Realm: When you first arrive in Umi's mind, it looks just like a normal, if classy, Japanese junior high school. Figments float here and there in the shape of study-related items, and sometimes teachers pose a minor, easily dispatched threat with their lasers.
Looking out the windows while in the school doesn't reveal anything suspicious, but if you jump out of one or leave through an external door, you find yourself falling through the sky. You fall and fall and fall, seemingly endlessly, but you do eventually approach and land in an unbelievably gorgeous ocean, as expansive as the eye can see. Being as it's within the mind, the impact doesn't hurt, and you can hold your breath forever. Which is lucky, because you have to dive down deep into the sea to get to the final destination.
On the way you'll encounter strange, fantastical-looking creatures to fight, aside from unnaturally beautiful, and more benign, ocean-dwelling life. One of them will speak to you, an enormous flying fish named Fyula, and explain that you have to be friendly to progress any farther. Ordinarily, this means that Umi won't let you any farther in unless she wants you there: an invisible barrier prevents you from getting to the elegantly arched, gleaming castle you can see on the ocean floor. But if you put enough emotional baggage back together (and there is some of it), you'll start to find some memory vaults, and they hint at certain things...
Iif you're clever, you'll even find one depicting what happened with Princess Emeraude, and behind it is a battle with a Nightmare, accompanied by a slew of Personal Demons. It's a formidable foe, but it's protecting a back door into the aforementioned castle, so it's worth the effort. Of course, if you do get that far without her wanting you there, the huge blue water dragon, Celes, is your final boss within the castle.
And behind everything, past everything, is a portrait of her parents, gold-framed and lighted like in a museum. There's one each of Hikaru and Fuu on either side of it.

First Person: Now that I've been here for a few days, I've calmed down a little. But it's still unbelievable that we're stuck here! I've completely had enough of being sent to crazy other worlds without any warning! I guess all we can do is make the best of it while we're here. At least English is one of my better subjects, or I'd be completely lost...
Does anyone know if the lake is safe to swim in? I could really use something relaxing right now, and I'm sure you guys could, too.
As long as I don't run into any insane fire-wielding wildlife again. That was the opposite of relaxing. I can't even say they're the weirdest things I've ever seen. That's so creepy.
Third Person: It was a funny thing to miss, but what Umi really missed the most about being in a strange other world was not having a kitchen. While she'd been in Cephiro, she'd had way too much on her mind to worry about anything else, but Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp left a lot more free time than she was used to. Without any studying to do and no rapier to practice with, that left Umi with her other hobby: baking.
"I am not giving up on this," she muttered to herself as she headed to the lodge. Someone had to take pity on her and let her use the camp kitchen!
Umi walked up the steps to the large wooden structure, hesitating only a little before entering. She didn't know anyone here, after all, and she felt strange without Hikaru and Fuu beside her in this experience. A bit of normalcy was just what she needed, and that meant cooking, so she firmed her resolve and walked over to the cook.
"I wanted to ask if--"
"Oh hey, little lady, you wanted me to flip you a burger, is that it?"
She'd opened her mouth to protest, but Umi suddenly noticed something, and frowned. "Hey, aren't you the ranger? And the guy at the beach?"
"Naw, I'm just the cook, and I run the store, too. You lookin' for a PSI Core?"
"No! I'm trying to find a kitchen to use!" she yelled in aggravation, temper short from the circumstances. Umi sighed, rubbing a temple. "Can you just tell me if there's one around you wouldn't mind me using?"
"What's that? You do want a burger after all?"
Face, meet palm. Maybe she'd have been better off asking for forgiveness than permission.
