I tried to write in this journal a few weeks ago. I had been watching the American Idol auditions. My mom came downstairs and told me that she wished Dad could die, because she was ready and he was ready. Later that night I tried to write that Mom wished Dad could die, but I couldn't get it to sound right. That will never sound right ( Read more... )

Mags, you looked the same when you were little and sort of don't. I don't know how to explain it. lol. And of course, your hair still looks glorious. Honestly, I get such hair envy from your hair.

I can't imagine what was going through your head when your mother told you that. It's weird when people around you are ready or preparing themselves for a loved one to die. Last month, my aunt and uncle booked my grandfather's funeral home, picked out a coffin and had a family meeting on what to do/how to organize the funeral when that time comes. There was a week that he was really sick and weak and it just hit my family/relatives that they have to be ready when that time does come. No more putting off the planning, etc. There would be viewings here in the US and the funeral will take place in the Philippines. He'll turn 90 in May. It was just weird having that happen around you when you.

Anyhow, on a lighter note, i'm glad you had a wonderful birthday. one of these days, i will visit you in iowa city....not if you come here in ny first, which btw you have to tell me what's going on with that.

Lastly being 23 isn't so bad. Lol.

You're right, 23 wasn't so bad. In fact, it was probably my best year to date. It just reminded me how young I am, that's all.

The moment was pretty surreal, more so because I was watching American Idol, and after she told me, I just kept watching. I didn't know what else to do.

I didn't end up applying to NYU. I just ran out of time, put my eggs in another basket. There don't seem to be many jobs for graduates in Museum Studies in the first place, so I tried to narrow it down to programs that would at least assist me, financially. Unfortunately, NYU wasn't one of those. When are you going to post pictures?

I feel like 23 is my best year to date too. Last August I got the writing internship for The Blay Report and everything else is history but I share your sentiment about still feeling young at being 23. And that's why I'm excited to turn turn 24 because than I would have been in the city for at least 6 months with experience. I would feel more like a "New Yorker" by then. Lol.

Well at least you had Simon, Kate (or is it Kat?) and Randy "Dawg, that was pitchy" to distract you. And what a weird timing And show for her to tell you that. When I was packing for NY, my mom would keep popping in my room and reminding me if "anything" happens to my grandfather, I better come back to Wisconsin....like damn, ma! Lol.

Aww, going to NYU would be pretty neat though. Well, I don't have a camera at the moment, but my little sister is coming to visit me during her Spring Break in three weeks and she'll bring a camera and I'll take TONS. TONS! and post them here.

But okay, what was the comment about you "making the same move this year"? Don't get my hopes up, Mags. lol.
