Mini rant of concrit, review

Um… I’m kind of baffled right now. I don’t know if I should feel annoyed or… understanding? I don’t know. I guess it’s fine… I just, uhh. I’ll try to explain ( Read more... )

Ooh, I know what you mean. I usually don't give concrit because I had a bad experience where I was attacked for it in an author note :/ although it annoyed me, I felt like the bigger person for not saying anything to their comments. I just ignored them and moved on. I do think if someone says anything about being okay about constructive crit, they should be open to receiving it, however much it may not be what they want to hear. (& I HATE when fans bash with the author)

Have you heard of the comm writers_guild? I get so frustrated when I read entries on there. Almost everyone who's asking for critique gets offended when the users give it. I don't know if they're just not looking at the other entries before post or what, but it's like they don't know it's a comm for harsh criticism. No user is attacking the writer, but giving honest critique on the work--which almost every writer posting there will not agree on. But I'm getting off topic, lol.

I wait until I'm done with the storyI didn't think about that. I actually do that with some of the ( ... )

yes, seriously! I don't think anyone really reads the earlier posts, or even the profile of the comm before posting. They just go ahead and think the critique is going to be positive with gentle concrit, but that's not what that comm is about at all. It's for honest, thorough critique that's not sugar-coated. I use it as a means to figure out what I shouldn't have in my own writing ^^;

Oh, me too. I don't post there (or anywhere too public), just lurk around every now and then and the critique mentioned sometimes ties in with my own stuff, or helps me when I'm writing to remember what was said. I actually get embarrassed by own writing. I feel it sucks or is dumb, or so many other things. A lot of times I remove my stuff from my FP or even my lj because of it DX I do post on other comms though that link to new stories/chapters on occasion. But I'm still rather weird about my fics.

Some of the posts on there do have overly harsh crits. I find myself in agreement with some, but disagreement as well. It's not a sugar-coated comm for sure. I think if you're a serious writer, and in need of serious critique, then you go there. But of course, you should know what you're getting yourself into and what you or may not get in terms of harshness. But I agree with what you said.

My concrits usually are like: I say what what needs worked on, give an example in case they don't understand (and to explain better) and offer positive comments of what I liked as well. I'm not harsh, and not really blunt either. I sparingly give concrit, and when I do, I'm wary with my words for fear I'll upset/offend. I also normally only comment on grammar problems (especially tenses) and whether certain things seem too sudden. If I dislike the story, I won't say; I feel that's irrelevant.
