I read this just after you posted it but couldnt think of anything to say. Now I say I actually understand where you are coming from. I have really mixed feelings about religion and being athiest I have a differnt view point from most people but I dont think that religion should be squashed out of people's lives. I dont believe it should be forced onto other people or incorporated into the government (at least not only one because that is Theocracy not Democracy) but the issue is broad and complicated. Most people have a religion/faith so our society cant be completely run without it and our government will never be completely free from it....So it all gets very convoluted and odd. I dont know how I feel about nativity scenes in public. I know I feel alone/leftout/persecuted/harrassed? by different sects of Chrisitanity a lot of the time and sometimes some of the stuff that they do can be either harmless or a Haha in your face thing or even both. I guess if I felt that the city council in your town was putting the nativity scene out as a silent declaration of the Christian superiority/control of the town I would be offended but it is all iffy. *shrug* Mostly I think it is kinda funny how and why Christmas is celebrated, and some of the time I think that Christians would NOT want to claim such a commercialized, material holiday as the celebration of their Lord's birthday (wasnt Jesus supposed to have been born in spring or Fall anyway?) but eh *shrug* its all weird....
LOL sorry about the totally odd rant. I hope you dont take offense I was just ruminating while typing and kinda kept going....
Wow, you read all that huh? ^.^ I just kinda babbled on about stuff.
the nativity scene seems to be part of a clock. It's not really "in your face" sorta thing either (unlike some houses this time of year X.x holy crap! they could confuse airplanes!) It just peeved me off, that group. it's not like wanting your simbol displayad also, its just being an ass. Meh, christmas isnt even really cristian anymore. It has turned mor commercial, but the idea is nice.
I do believe in seperation of church and state (although i really dont care if there is garland on the street lamps out front =/). Another issue here, people want a plaque/statue of the ten comandments in a government building. I do like what one guy said, put up a copy of the constitution instead.
I take no offense, i rarely take offense because everyone has their own views and ideas and should be permitted to express them, as long as they aren't hurting someone... or cramming it down my throat.
I dont really liek any said religion, but I'm happy enough with my own views. I forget what it's called, but it's pretty much "maybe" point of view, as there's no way to truely know... look at this, I'm babbling again ^.^
