Guh, just another week in Slidell. Most of it was spent in data entry and fixing mistakes I made in coordinating volunteers. Had I known that simple arithmetic was a job requirement, I would've sought work elsewhere. All is well, though. I find it hard to want to do things, like draw or search for jobs. I did cook an actual meal this week, though -- it was the last chance I'd have before the kitchen is overrun with volunteers for the next two months. Chicken curry and jasmine rice. I don't know why the curry is so bland. Maybe I'm over-heating the sauce or not adding enough curry paste or something. It's pretty decent, don't get me wrong, but it's nothing like even the hole-in-the-wall Indian restaurants in Columbus OH.
Dionysus went a little better than Mona Lisa & Moon Pie, no thanks to the two ten-year-old girls who materialized in front of me a few minutes before the parade got to me. Luckily, we were at the end of the parade route, so they were getting rid of beads as quickly as they could throw them. I ended up with a bag of beads, a cup, a mini-frisbee, three bouncy balls, and a small vinyl-plush Dionysus doll. Not too bad for being neither cute nor young nor female. Those bags of beads are killers. I was lucky. The guy who threw me mine looked right at me and pointed at me. I waved my arms and made eye contact. We bonded in those seconds. He tossed the bag of beads in a perfect arc to my outstretched arms, a special delivery just for me. Others weren't so lucky. One bag upended a lawn chair, slamming it like a cannonball. Another landed in a stroller, luckily devoid of child at the time. I'm sure a few people were hit in the head, chest, kneecaps.Total bead carnage. It was a good parade.
Man, this praline pecan king cake is so good. I only wish I had a smoothie to wash it down.
