Valan Luca's Bloody Fabulous Circus [three feet closer to Lugard]

May 26, 2011 13:54

Mat was bloody tired of being at the bloody circus, and he certainly wasn't going to help them set up for a performance in yet another flyspeck village so that Valan bloody Luca can have more gold in his bloody coffers.

Mat sent word to the Band to make sure their tents were set up and the horses cared for (why have coin if not to make sure other people do chores for you?) and set down with pen and paper to write to his friends in Fandom.

Dear everyone (I'm making copies of this letter which is pain enough, don't expect bloody personalization, Arthur).

We're about three paces closer to Lugard than we were a month ago. If I didn't know Master Luca well enough I'd suspect he was using the Power to move us backward in the night when we camp. I could have walked to blood Lugard faster than this though that would mean leaving Tuon Aes Sedai Olver people behind and I promised not to and I don't break my promises even when I am practically jumping out of my skin to get anywhere else. There's a sense of something about to happen here and I am not going to be in bloody Altara when the Last Battle begins, thank you. I will be on Pips and riding as hard as I can in the opposite direction.

Sometimes Mat was delusional. He bit the end of his pen as he thought over what else to write.

Tuon still only calls me 'Toy', which is bloody irritating, so I call her Precious. She hasn't snicked my head off yet, so I call it progress.

A lot of the time, Mat was delusional.

I've finally convinced an Illuminator in the circus to let me in on her big idea--turned out that she's going to use her skills with fireworks to make cannons, if she can find a bellfounder. She calls the things 'dragons' and the ammunition 'dragon eggs', and nearly wet herself when I told her I knew the Dragon Reborn himself. If we ever get out of the bloody woods and to a town with more than four people who aren't relatives, married to each other or both, we might have a decent weapon to take on the Shadow. I'll pass it along to Rand before I run.

Have to go now--Tuon is insisting that I take her to a 'hell'--think Caritas with only half the charm, and while I'm not completely insane and will not be taking her (and her bloody maid, and Thom...) a real hell, I'll bring her to a tavern in this new town in a few hours. If they have a tavern. Light, this place is small.

Three times the size of the village Mat had grown up in, but that was hardly the point, was it.

Hopefully you're all well and not old, cats, or with only one eye (what the bloody hell was that about, anyway? I don't like it).

There! Everyone was all caught up. Satisfied with his work for the day, Mat went off to find Olver to play Snakes and Foxes before he headed off on his date.
