Fanfiction: No Definition - Series Masterpost
If you look at my fic writing history, you'll see a rather large gap between 2007 and 2010. The reality is I was in the process of having a complete mental breakdown, which eventually led to hospitalization and moving back home. So fandom and writing weren't hugely on my priority list even if I never gave it up, I was doing more original stuff during that time, but in 2010, I ended up seeing Inception, and I really liked it. It was there that I found the "party post" over on Oh No They Didn't, which let me find fanfiction again and, eventually, Inception Kink. Despite being in fandom for nearly a decade, I joined very young [14], so I didn't know what a kink meme was. I found so many, not even smutty, prompts and wrote my little heart out that, to this day, Inception towers over everything else on AO3 in terms of sheer quantity of fics.
During that time, I wrote three different origin stories for Arthur and Eames. One of them spawned two sequels before sputtering out, the other never really got off of the ground (though maybe I should go back and look at it now), and then Against Us just clicked. The series No Defintion, because Arthur and Eames did not define what they were to each other, grew and was primarily written between 2011 and 2013, I did return to the series in 2020 for another one-shot. I've never marked it as complete because I always feel like I could come back to this series at any given time. There are six entries at the time of writing for a total word count of 142,458 as of January 2025. Story details and links are below.

They are attacked and go on the run eventually ending up in California. Newlyweds Cobb and Mal invite them on a job but it is not what it seems to be. Arthur, Eames, Cobb and Mal must fight for their lives and the one's they care about or the job might send them to limbo or worse.

While they are eating dinner an assassin tries to kill them as well. They quickly move in and save Ariadne and Yusuf but the four of them find that they are in way over their heads. They must find help in an extremely unlikely source and keep one step ahead of a man willing to put any price on their heads.

Then a bunch of armed men kick down their door to kidnap them and force them to do a job and that just really puts a damper on things.
