For the first three days of the UAAP 71 Swimming Championships, the Ateneo women's team had been winning the gold and breaking every record for all the relays they had joined.

On the last day, the team settled for a bronze. After that event, this picture was taken.

Believe it or not, those aren't tears of sadness. Rather, this event was the culmination of four days of competition, and thirty years of waiting.

Since Ateneo joined UAAP in 1978, the college team has never won first place in swimming.
That relay, despite coming in third, changed everything for Ateneo.

On September 28 2008, the Ateneo women's team made history. They won over a slim margin of three points. As Coach Archie said, "In basketball lingo, that's like winning the game by one point."

Congratulations to the Ateneo women's team. You guys did it!

I've never cried so much during an awarding than I did at this moment. After every event, I cried. I cried because I was happy, I cried because they were crying, and I cried because this was my last.
