Still have not seen MI:4, I cry every time I think of it. Went with friends to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo yesterday afternoon. DANIEL CRAIG, YOU GUYS. MY RL FRIENDS DO NOT UNDERSTAND MY LUST. Augh.* It saddens me deeply.
So basically, aside from the amazingness that is Daniel Craig's bare backside (which you can catch a bare glimpse of for shame there wasn't more of that) it was... kind of a waste to go see this movie? I mean, the Swedish version was pretty fucking ace (if you haven't seen it, GO. WATCH. NOW. Noomi Rapace is... lovely. *dreamy sigh*) and I think, after seeing this one (even with the Craigster, and it hurts me to say this) I liked the original better.
Wiki tells me that the American version is more faithful to the book (but as I didn't read the book nor do I ever plan on reading the book, I just. Don't care. Sorry Stieg.) but I can't help myself. Rooney Mara is no Noomi Rapace. Rooney did a brilliant job. The scene with her rapist got a double fistpump from me (fucker deserved that shit, he really did) and I enjoyed her portrayal. But Noomi. *sigh* Idk. Something about the way Noomi played Lisbeth seemed... more. Maybe I just like the actress more. It's not something I can exactly put my finger on right atm.
So this version was more faithful at certain points (Blomkvist's relationship with that lady he worked with and the fact that he had a daughter) but completely missed the mark in others (Harriet being in London the whole time instead of Australia). So take of it what you will. In every other aspect it's very similar to the Swedish film and if you've already seen that, aside from the Craig goodness, I don't see the point in going to see it. Again. Only in English and with different faces.
(But that's just me.)
So, I liked it but still think we should have gone to see MI:4 or SH2 instead. *le sigh* Will probably try the sequels if/when they come out. But only on DVD because I tried the Swedish sequels (or, at least the second one) and I got maybe 20 minutes in before I decided I just didn't care enough. C'est la vie.
*No srsly. They just think he's old, to which I reply: MOTHERFUCKING GASP. Clearly, they need to be schooled or something.
