Reita was slowly stirring from a deep slumber he was in when he realized he was alone on the couch. Sitting up he viewed the clock, it read 2:28a.m. he looked around and found the curtains leading to the balcony billowing in the wind. He could have sworn he didn’t leave the door open. Standing up he stretched and walked over to the door, he found Ruki standing there with a mug in his hand. Walking over he stood next to Ruki looking at the moon.
“Hey, beautiful, couldn’t sleep?”
“No, not really, I just had a lot on my mind and you were asleep and I didn’t want to wake you…”
Reita grabbed Ruki’s hand and kissed his knuckles. A smile gracing his lips. He turned swiftly from Ruki and left. The short blonde looked confused and shrugged turning back to look over the balcony’s edge. The beautiful view from the eighteenth floor balcony was always so wonderful. At night he got a good view of the stars that were viewable. The city below was nice during the day when he could watch the people bustle by. He liked to people watch, it made him happy when he saw a mother and her child or a loving old couple walk by. He would like, to possibly adopt and grow old with the one he loved. Wouldn’t that be a beautiful thing? Ruki jumped when he heard the sound of clattering, turning around he saw Reita setting something up.
“Rei? What are you doing?”
“Tonight we will sleep under the stars, my mom use to tell me it’s the best way to get to sleep. I know we have a roof over our balcony, but we’ll still be able to see them.”
“Oh? We are, I will enjoy it.”
Ruki turned back to the city to smile for a second and then turned back to Reita and grabbed his empty mug and set it on the glass table. He walked over to the wall and leaned against it. His eyes watching Reita’s every move. Reita finished setting up the little bed they would sleep on that night. Ruki walked over when Reita laid down and got comfortable. He sat down, then laid his head on Reita’s stomach, feeling Reita run his fingers through his blonde locks. He sighed in content and spoke softly.
“This is perfect.”
Reita smile at his little lover, he felt like he was flying. This moment was so perfect. He wanted to tell Ruki about his feelings. Yeah they had been dating for awhile, but they had yet to say ‘I love you’. He was having an internal struggle. He knew Ruki wouldn’t reject his feelings, but it was so hard. He wasn’t embarrassed, but there was that small thing in the back of his mind saying ‘what if’. Like what if Ruki didn’t love him? Or what if Ruki wasn’t ready for that yet?
“Hey, Rei?”
“Yeah?”
“Tell me about time you went to the beach with your mom again…”
Reita smiled and ruffled Ruki’s hair and took a deep breath.
“I was maybe seven at the time, my mom had been planning this for awhile, she didn’t tell me it was surprise of course. I remember when she told me, I was drawing a picture of me as a police man. Anyways she gave me my already packed bag and we walked to the train station. It was the perfect sunny day. When we got to the beach it was about noon. Mom set up a cute picnic and set up the umbrella and we ate in the shade. Then she surprised me with a puppy, he was a cute little golden retriever and I named him…”
“You named Umi because you got him while at the sea…”
Ruki looked up smiling, a twinkle in his eye. Reita smile and spoke softly.
“Yes, I named him Umi.”
“That story ma-” Ruki yawned a little and snuggled deeper against Reita, “makes me happy…”
Reita smiled and then yawned. This night was perfect, he was trying so hard not to fall asleep. He knew Ruki was trying to do the same. Suddenly his little blonde lover’s breathing came out in even tones he knew that Ruki was asleep. Pulling the blanket over them he looked at the stars, a whoosh of air making its way out of his mouth as he sighed.
“If only you knew what I wanted to say, Taka…”
He closed his eyes when suddenly the weight on his stomach was gone and when he opened his eyes, he found two dark brown eyes looking at him. Suddenly a pair of lips were on his own, he was shocked at first, but closed his eyes and deepened the kiss. He felt nothing but pure fireworks, he loved every moment of it. When Ruki pulled back he smiled and spoke in a soft whisper.
“Tell me what?”
Reita gulped, but kept looking into those eyes. He grabbed one of Ruki’s hands and intertwined their fingers.
“I’ve been fighting with myself for awhile now. I want you to know I love you. I know you’re the one for me, the one I share my red string of fate with…I just hope you feel the same…”
Ruki smiled and kissed Reita on the chin.
“Idiot, I was waiting for you to tell me that. I love you too.”
Reita smiled at his lover wrapped his arms around Ruki’s waist.
“I’m glad, I really am.”
Ruki laid his head down on Reita’s chest and hummed sleepily.
“Night, Akira, I love you…”
“Love you too, Takanori, sleep tight.”
Reita smiled, his mother always told him people sleep best under the stars. She didn’t tell him though that good things always happened under the stars when with the one you loved. So on the eighteenth floor balcony of their apartment he was able to tell Ruki his real feelings. He was quite content with that, he was really content with that actually.
