As a child, i was assessed as being gifted.

I can't help but wonder, if assessed, what i would be now.
Am i still gifted now that some of the potencial is gone?
I know the path I have chosen is nowhere near what I am able to achieve, but is closer to my personal goals of family and security and following a moral lifestyle.
But all the same. I liked the title. It made me special, it gave me a reason for why other children didnt always get me. Even now, i choose to associate with other people of intellegence. Not genius. I'm not that uppity. But with people who understand me and dont complain that my words or humour are far beyond them. With people who can keep up with me. Or who at least pretend to keep up with me.
Its interesting that the people i see as intellegent didnt nessasarily do well at school or academically. They just talk at a speed and level that doesnt seem slow to me.

I have always been proud of doing well at school, of being able to process ideas and concepts quickly. And at the same time i have always been afraid to pronounce myself as intellegent. Which is, i suppose, why new zealanders are known for small poppy syndrome, slamming down those who attempt to be greater than the norm.

done thinking.
