[If Al hadn't told him, he'd just wander through the clinic anyway.
It takes him a few minutes -- he's still healing from his various battle wounds -- but he leans in the doorway once he arrives. He doesn't speak for a long moment, arm draped around his midsection, simply watching Alphonse.
If it had been Zuko, he would've broken down awhile ago. Perhaps that's still coming... Toph is still missing and Junior is still dead. Would he even come back? Albedo claims otherwise.
[Zuko's grip around his midsection tightens for a moment. It was always easier, talking about what was bothering you when someone else starts the conversation.]
I've been having nightmares about Rhode getting back into my head all week. And about... Albedo.
[Junior is one of his really good friends. And he's not back yet. And Toph is still missing. Goddammit, Rhode.]
[This is easier for him. He can barely function, thinking about his own problems, but listening and helping Zuko is second nature. Al's expression sobers, and he lifts his eyes, soft and sympathetic.]
... Albedo. ... the guy who started hurting others right after Rhode did.

[Zuko honestly has no idea how alchemy works. The basics, sure, but even so, a transmutation to bring back a human being seems like a very overcomplicated thing to do. How it could go wrong... Zuko doesn't even want to think about it.

... the homunculi in my world are made from failed human transmutations.
When the come back, they retain the appearance and some of the memories of the person they were, but they have no soul. They don't have any conscience, or anything to make them human.
Envy killed, tortured, started wars... because he was bored.
I dreamed that I brought my brother back to be that.
[Zuko blinks before sighing to himself. He is terrible at comfort. He glances around the room for a moment, as if searching for something to say, before settling on the obvious.]

He shakes his head slightly.]
...I'm having them too.
You okay?

Not really.
[Al shifts, looking back over his shoulder. He's wiped the tears away, but he still looks like hell.]
You should be laying down. Come on. [He'll get to his feet and slide an arm around Zuko's back to help him.]

I've had enough lying down. I'm lucky to escape from my room.
[Iroh totally locked him in all day.]
Want to talk about it?

My nightmare was about my brother. [And other things, but this scared him the most.]
The transmutation... the one I did right before I came here, to save him? ... I dreamed I did it wrong. He came back... wrong.

He shifts uncomfortably.]
That sounds terrible.

Ed wouldn't do that.
I know, I hunted rainbows with him.
[This is seriously the only time he will ever mention The Great Rainbow Hunt (TM) again.]
