[Al sits at a table, staring a PCD (seperate from the one recording this), and from the slightly thready playback, he's listening to a recorded conversation between himself and Sasuke.]
[The sound of a hard smack.]
Ow! That wasn't very nice.

[Faint chuckling.] Don't make that face.
[Slightly grudgingly.] Better?
No, I want a different one.
Which one?
That one's good, but it could be better.
[... a pause, and Al on the real-time feed half-smiles.]
That's perfect.
[The smile widens a little more, and he reaches out to slowly turn off the recording. For a moment the thoughtful smile remains on his face, and then he nods to himself.]
Okay... okay.
[Al takes a few more minutes, toying with the button on the PCD. There is still an edge of sadness to him, but the worst seems to have lifted. After a moment he glances up at the feed, and half-smiles.]

It's Ed's birthday, February the second. Day after tomorrow. We don't usually throw parties, but I want to do... I don't know, something special.
I'm getting together some decorations and some ingredients to surprise him with a cake. Don't tell him, I really doubt he was going to say anything. Maybe it's not long enough notice for a small get-together?
