Who the Fuck is This Dude? (All about KC)

Oct 31, 2009 10:54

And here is an extremely long post about a character that I've created, oh years, and years ago, and practically no one (except for me) knows anything about him! In fact, it's a long, long, time overdue.

A little info to get us started:

Lets see here.  A long time ago, I was a little younger and right before I grew some boobs I started listening to a lot of punk music. This is pretty much what spawned KC. It all started with Operation Ivy and Rancid, then it all went down hill and I started listening to the older stuff and the underground stuff and everything in between.  I was pretty much hooked. Sure, you couldn't consider most of these guys great singers and you're lucky to find a song that's even 5 minutes long, but the energy is  there and it makes me feel alive.

When I discovered the Crack Rock Steady music (Leftover Crack, Morning Glory, Choking Victim, etc), I really started basing my character around that sort of lifestyle (in and out of homelessness, hard drug use, police brutality, anti-racism, etc).  Anti-anything and equality is pretty much what a lot of "punk" music is about, but these bands sound the among the most angry out of anything I've listened to in that time period (especially LOC), probably because they have been on  the lowest point on the societal food chain. So, that's why KC is a train-hopping, recovered heroin addict, squatter type.

I've also imagined that he'd be in a band at some point as a lead vocalist and bassist, although unfortunately I've never created the rest of the band. Not being musically inclined, I'm not sure how it would sound. I'd imagine it would sound pretty damn cool, though. My brother (who is a the musical dude in the family) said it would sound fine for that style of music and I'll believe him. He can pick up any instrument and play it.  I'd like to finally create the rest of the band at some point. It would be interesting and hilarious. I will also attempt to pick up my brother's bass one day.

So, that's what pretty much what spawned Mr. KC.

Basic Stats:
Full Name: Karson "No Cash" Cabrera ("No Cash" is another one of those bands along the line of Crack Rock Steady and it fits as a nickname for his persona)
Date of Birth: October 18th, 1984 (Libra)
Hails From: Long Beach, CA
Hair Color: Medium Brown, but dyed blue and often in various states of fading.
Eyes: Dark/Medium Gray Blue
Skin: Light Tan (from living outdoors)
Height/Build: 5'9", Ranges from borderline skinny to pretty well toned (depending on how well he's been eating) Either way, he usually picks fights and wins.
Ethnicity: A Little of everything, possibly a hint of Hispanic (hence the last name). Basically, he's fucking American.
Peircings: Left  Eyebrow, Labret, Gauged ears: One pincher in the right ear, and he lost the other, so there is a small padlock in the left
Tattoos: He has one tattoo of his ex girlfriend's name (Sugar) in some sort of stylized Old English between his shoulder blades. You'll see it eventually.
I've never revealed that he had it or the fact that he did have a girl. She meant a lot to him, hence the tattoo and the recovery from heroin. I'll explain her later. I've drawn her several times, and she always looks different, but her role to him remains the same.
Accessories: Always has a baseball bat nearby, in case shit gets heavy. Otherwise, he has whatever he can carry. Also has a fondness for shopping carts, when he can get one.
Current Residence: All over the fucking place. Especially large cities. He's got connections all over and will return to some places.
Occupation: Does odd jobs for money under the table, and often ends up dealing drugs, including  the very drug that almost killed him.
YIM Screename: nocashcabrera

Lets have a looksy at this motherfucker, shall we?

Showcasing the mohawk and his "normal" hair... His hair is a mess because he often wears that hat.

After fucking someone up with the bat, apparently.  Also, apparently I didn't finish coloring this.

I know I posted this like, yesterday but it belongs here because it's his "official" ref post.

Homies:
Glacier: A really awesome vamp-looking girl with big tits. This character was created by Erica. Usually she has dog ears and a tail, but for my purposes, she is a normal human being (sorry Erica). She's one of his favorite homies, because she's fucking weird and interesting. Also, big tits.
Greta Marie Evans: A very pretty, clean cut nursing student who has a huge crush on KC. He takes advantage of this and crashes at her apartment often. She doesn't seem to mind, and often nurses him back to health when the streets beat him down. He keeps it platonic, because of his love for Sugar... and he hopes to god she will crush on someone else.
Buzz Mother Fucking Lightyear: A homeless, Vietnam vet with an overgrown beard. He has such severe PTSD that he refuses to walk and must be pushed around in a shopping cart for fear of stepping on land mines. He might have fleas.
Jack aka "The Steamy Jamaican": A very tall Jamaican dude who has the best weed in town. KC often runs the stuff for him for money (or free weed).
Floyd: Another "punk" dude with green Liberty spikes. Formerly he was known as JC and was created by one of my friends as KC's brother, but that role is now defunct and I took over him. He is basically just a pal.
Yolanda:  A large, kindly black woman who feeds KC on occasion. She lives in Greta's apartment complex.
Darnell and Ice: Two pimps who ride around in tricked out Impala. They often give KC free rides to places.
Shaniqua: A young lady with a big mouth and a big ghetto booty to match. She runs a hair salon and often has KC run errands for her. She dyes his hair for him too: "Boy, yo' hair look like shit!"
Chuck (Norris):  A stray dog. He is a huge Presa Canario, with his ears hacked nearly off and was probably someone's escaped fighting dog. He's almost like KC's side kick, and has come to his rescue many times. KC returns the favor by feeding him whenever he can and sneaking him into Greta's apartment whenever he stays there.

Makkuro Tsukino: She's a real live, actual ninja, with swords and shit.  KC's only met her once. While in the middle of being brutalized by a cop, she comes out of nowhere and saves his ass. She carves the cop up like a thanksgiving turkey and disposes of the body without ever leaving a trace of the incident. He thanks her and says, "Girl, if you ever need a real big fuckin'  favor, I'll fuckin' do it for ya." He never thinks she'll take him up on it, but offers anyway. Oh, if he only knew. Makkuro is an OC I created exclusively for the Dethklok fandom, and she essentially bridges the gap between KC's crew and  Dethklok in the fic I plan on writing and therefore deserves her own bio.

A sampling of the crew:

Personality:
KC definitely looks hard around the edges, and he definitely is a tough guy because of the situations he is in and the life he lives. He doesn't take shit from anyone, but doesn't give anyone shit, either. Unless in his mind, he thinks they deserve it. I really don't like the label "punk". I believe people who assign that label to themselves don't quite understand that it's a state of mind and a lifestyle. So, KC is definitely "punk" in the aspects of his thinking, and hangs with some like minded people, but would never give himself  that label. Or give anyone a label, really. Basically, he is very aware of the plights of society and humanity, especially the poor and misunderstood. He is one of them, and he empathizes with them. Since he lives on the fringes of society, he does hold quite a bit of contempt for those who are higher up on the social ladder.  Most of the people he associates with are poor and do whatever they can to keep their heads above water. For example, although Greta Evans comes from a decent background, she is a poor college student trying to make it on her own in a shitty apartment.  KC doesn't have much, but will give what he can to those who have helped him in the past or are even worse off than he is.

That being said, he will still pick fights. Mostly, he fights the pompous rich kids who think they have a God-Given right to everything the world holds. He also tries his best to avoid the cops but sometimes ends up in confrontations with them, because he runs drugs and finds cheap ( illegal) ways to entertain himself.

KC's a popular guy and has many connections. Very resourceful,  he knows how to do many things. But if he can't do it, he knows someone who can. He's also an avid reader, especially philosophy. He doesn't believe in school, because why pay for something you can learn on your own?

Life:
KC is one smart dude, or else he wouldn't have survived so long on the streets. He might have served himself better by going to school and making a career for himself. However, he came from a broken home, and a neglectful mother and step father put him on the run at 15 or so. He began hitchhiking and train-hopping around the country.  The only people around were drug addicts and other homeless people, and he quickly found himself  hooked on heroin at 16, and also picked up playing bass and singing for some bands in whichever area he happened to be in. He continued doing the heroin on and off. Until at age 19-20, he almost wasted himself for good. Some nice girl named Sugar found him near dead and out in a gutter near her apartment complex, and with a lot of effort, she got him off the shit.  He stayed with her for a year and continued developing his music, but they had a falling out and ended up going their own separate ways. He never forgot the girl who rescued him from hell, which is why her name is permanently emblazoned on his back. He's never seen her since. Despite being a dickhead sometimes, he's a sucker and a hopeless romantic and vows to find her again, or die trying. He often finds himself sleeping with girls that have the same face, or remind him of her, but he's always left hurt in the end.

If KC were an animal, he'd be a cockroach. They are naturally resilient little bastards that have existed long before mankind and will be here long after. After getting off the heroin, he has no desire to do it again, nor any temptations when he often ends up running it for dealers to earn whatever he can. Having the drug in his hands is kind of like his own special "fuck you" to something that nearly destroyed him. He could always not do the delivery and start shooting it up again, but he finds it exhilarating to just be able to touch it and defy it. That being said, he never holds any ill feelings towards those who do it, and even can stand being around people shooting up. It's their own life. He chain smokes cigarettes, does weed and drinks, but that's about all he does.

He resides now in some unnamed city, which is where he has stayed ever since leaving Sugar. That's where all his friends now are and it sets the scene for my stories of him.  KC's constantly watching over and defending his block by those he deems unfit or undeserving of being there.

Music:

Since I was greatly inspired by the bands Leftover Crack, and Morning Glory in the creation of this guy, I'd imagine his vocals to be like those of Ezra Kire of Morning Glory, although more articulate (Ezra tends to slur). I also pulled his heroin addiction from Ezra.
I've also always been a huge fan of Matt Freeman of Rancid when I heard his solo in "White Knuckle Ride" and basically any of his bass solos. The guy is awesome in my opinion and I knew I wanted KC to have a similar bass style.  As far as to what kind of bass he plays, I'd imagine it would be whatever he could find available.

Oh, the band that never happened (but might happen) is called El Cheapo. As far as I know there is no band with that name, but if there is, they can suck on my non-existent nut sack.

KC in the Dethklok Universe:
Since getting into this fandom, I've been greatly entertained by the fact that several talented people can take a relatively un-serious show and write fic and art for it and make it really emotional and believable, while still retaining the hilarity of it all. I wanted to try my hand at that, too. Especially with the characters I already had. I think it would be very interesting to see how a guy eventually meets and reacts to the antics of World's Most Famous Band as a "regular jackoff" looking from the outside in. I also want to convey that there are still regular people in the world that really don't give a fuck about Dethklok and don't live their lives around what Dethklok does.

Those guys and KC are very different. The members of Dethklok pretty much have no ideals and have the freedom to do what they want and get away with it. It hits a sore spot for a guy like KC, who gets stopped by the cops for merely trying to find a way to survive, or entertain himself by vandalizing shopping carts. Eventually they do team up for the event of  the "Metalocalypse", and they put aside their differences and shake the fucking earth with their angry music. That's all I'm going to reveal until I start posting the first chapters.

I have always wanted to write a story about the events leading up to some sort of an apocalypse, slightly reminiscent of The Stand.

A marriage of metal and punk? What would it sound like? I don't know but it would probably be dope as shit.

And just for fun, a look at him from 2004-2005
The green haired dude was JC, now known as Floyd

.

As you can see, he hasn't changed much (except for looking rougher) but thankfully, I've gotten better at drawing. These are sort of painful (although amusing) to look at.

Thanks for letting me waste a chunk of your life with something totally unimportant.

kc bio, art kc, rock the 40oz, shopping carts, shit
