About Kousuke

History:
We start off with the legend of the "blade children." These children were created via test tube. The head of the organization was called Yaiba Mizushiro. He was born with one rib missing from his right ribcage, and he excelled at everything he chose to put his mind to. When he was in his twenties, Yaiba initiated the "Blade Children Project". The blade children project was a secret military project taking place in a remote area of Russia. The project was spoken in hushed tones and every reporter was either paid off for their silence, or killed off for even mentioning information related to the project. The goal: to create children with skills surpassing ordinary militia.

Yaiba altered his DNA, modifying the aggressive genes to create a human weapon. This was all still in the experimental stage, so it wasn't even proved to be legitimate. However, he was willing to take the risk.

Using invitro fertilization, he seeded his DNA and created a total of eighty children. These children all had a rib removed at birth to signify them being of Yaiba's blood. They were cursed in the same way Yaiba was: they would grow up as geniuses in their own right, but one day their blood would awaken murderously and take over their self-will, becoming Yaiba‘s personal weapons. But that wasn't their only curse. It was said that these children would bring misfortune to whomever chose to associate with them. At birth, the mothers that were chosen to carry these children would die of mysterious complications just two months after the child entered the world. This usually brought tension between the family members, especially to those who knew of the blade children project.

One year after those eighty children were born, the corporation went bankrupt and Yaiba was forced to cover his tracks. Before his death, he spread the children out all around the world. Thirteen of these children were unaccounted for, not listed in any of the records that he had managed to save before burning down the institute.

These thirteen children were the few lucky ones that would likely slip away from the eyes of the Hunters.

Hunters were a band of people who did not support this project. They knew about the Yaiba corporation and took it upon themselves to hunt down these children and put this secret military project to rest. After all, having genetically altered children running around who were basically ticking time bombs wasn't a safe bet for the world at large.

There was a group of these children, roughly born around the same time, who would soon find that their lives were bound in the twisted strands of fate.

Kousuke Asazuki was one of these children.

Kousuke grew up with his aunt, who constantly blamed him for the death of her sister, Kousuke’s mother. The only thing that really held him together was his best friend, Ryoko Takamachi. It was a mere coincidence that they had met, both being members of the Blade Children project(though neither of them were aware at the time). When they were ten, they learned of their fate from another by the name Kanone Hilbert. Kanone was very skilled in combat. He also introduced them to another child, Eyes Rutherford. Eyes, unlike Kanone, was skilled with the piano and amazing deduction skills. The two informed Kousuke of a group of people called “Hunters” and suggested he do anything possible to defend himself against them, even if that meant murdering.

They soon encountered a man named Narumi Kiyotaka. They would know this man to be their hope for the future. This man believed in them as talented children, and not as the cursed weapons that Yaiba created.

In his second to last year of middle school, Kousuke was faced with the real danger that came with being a “cursed child.” One of his teachers had been under cover, searching for children who would fit the description of the targets he was given. Tis teacher found out that Kousuke was one that was supposedly destined to become a killer. He tried to corner Kousuke, outwitting him in order to put an end to the red head's life. In the end, Kousuke was forced to kill, and with the blood of a hunter on his hands, Kousuke learns a lesson that would stick to him like glue. You can’t trust everyone.

Shortly after that, Kousuke disappeared, all to Ryoko’s disappointment. She blamed Eyes for what happened; blamed him for turning Kousuke into a murderer. During this time, Kousuke sought out Kanone. Along with finding him, Kousuke met Rio, a younger ally who enjoyed anything and everything related to explosives. They bonded quickly, despite the fact they acted like brother and sister, constantly fighting and arguing over the smallest things. He became protective of her. Together, they trained under Kanone's eyes, learning better skills to help them in their fight against the hunters.

When Kousuke turned sixteen, the hunters were as fierce as ever, and that's when Kiyotaka Narumi's little brother was pulled into the mix, along with a bouncy, blond haired school reporter. Ayumu Narumi and Hyono Yuizaki came into the picture, and Kousuke took action and finally came out of hiding. He hardly believed that this kid could be the one that would save them from their fate. Kousuke had given up every hope of being saved long ago, but that hardly meant he wasn’t going to fight against his own fate.

Kousuke returned to school after meeting Ayumu, in order to keep an eye on Rio and to further investigate their supposed “savior.” Finally he is reunited with Ryoko, but it was hardly a warm welcome. Still, his feelings hadn’t changed and he had missed her terribly over the years they were apart. Ryoko insisted on having nothing to do with the plans Eyes and Kousuke had for Ayumu, and to her disappointment, Rio was right in the middle, setting traps to test the little Narumi's skills. It wasn't until Rio was kidnapped that Ryoko finally got herself involved.

Kousuke wasn't too pleased with Rio's kidnapping either, and upon finding out who the hunter that was targeting them was, he jumped head first into yet another life threatening situation. The hunter set traps, and he ends up injured. He calls Ryoko, trying to put up a front as he apologizes for being stupid. She figures out by background noise where he is and goes to find him. They then work together to get out of a situation that could have cost them both their lives. Since then, Kousuke really felt that he was bonded to her.

In their seventeenth year, Kanone reappears. He's declared that he would put an end to the blade children himself. When he sets a trap and demands that the Watchers take responsibility as well and call all of the blade children into the gym in return for his hostages, Kousuke, Ryoko, and Rio set out to stop him. Kousuke took the lead, throwing himself into the fire in order to make Rio's plans work. After shoving Kanone into the explosion, he himself is knocked out.

Once the battle is over, Ryoko sits next to his bedside, criticizing him for being so stupid. This is when Kousuke admits to her that he doesn't like when she calls him her brother, because he couldn't put the moves on his sister. She calls him stupid, and he ass her to just let him have the illusion, even if he really can't act on his feelings.

Recovery was slow, but that didn't stop the obstacles placed before them. Kousuke learns that Kiyotaka has been using all of them the whole time, and that Ayumu is actually much more like them than he would have imagined. The only difference is that Ayumu is a true clone of his older brother, while they were still genetically engineered. Kousuke's feelings were finally justified, because he never did trust Kiyotaka. There was more to the whole scenario than was shared with the Blade Children. Kiyotaka was just using them to test his younger brother. There was never any intention of saving them from their fate.

Ayumu had a fate too. He was supposed to die before he was Twenty, but he fought his fate. This inspired the Blade children to fight their own. They didn't have to be killers. They didn't have to be outcasts.

Kousuke reached his eighteenth year and decided to fight his fate. Instead of running from fate, he faced it head on. He chose to live a normal life and prove everyone wrong. In fall, he was ready to enter college, but instead he found himself somewhere else.

Personality: He’s very loyal to a fault with people he does trust, which are few and far between. He’s stubborn and usually rushes into dangerous situations without thinking. He is sarcastic. He likes a good joke (as long as it’s not to his expense.)

Kousuke likes to flirt. He’s all for charming the ladies. “I have a way with the cute ones,” as quoted from episode 4.

He’s very good at logic and puzzles. He’s smart and quick witted. I’d imagine he is good with computers and electronics. He also has a decent knowledge of explosives. Even though he respects Eyes Rutherford as a musician, he’s closer to Rio, probably because of her love for explosives. Kousuke likes things to be interesting! He has had a crush on Ryoko for years, and she's the only one who can really push him around. He doesn't like to hide, but sometimes he knows that it's necessary to lay low. He is also very selfish and would sooner try saving his own skin than someone else's, unless they are someone he holds very dear (such as Rio or Ryoko.)

Kousuke doesn’t like to be controlled, especially when it comes to fate. He’s a rebel to authority, which was why he never really liked Kiyotaka Narumi. He always felt that Kiyotaka was trying to control him, as well as the other Blade Children. Kousuke would rather work alone, under his own values and rules, than to follow someone else.
