After reading different people's postings (everywhere) on tattoo's I've decided I'm due for another one.
My favorite poet, e.e. cummings wrote this one poem that has been my favorite for years upon years now.. See the thing is, I'd love to get the whole thing tattooed somewhere but I realize that's a bit overdoing it so I think it seems fitting to tattoo the last line (which is of course the best line) somewhere on my body. Where? I need to figure that one out....
In case you care, here's the poem. It's my absolute favorite, ever. I am cheesy like that. And if you ask me to recite it when I'm drunk I will, 10 times. You're lucky if you haven't heard me try to stumble through it yet.
somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose
or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
So that's what the Christmas money and working will be spent on when I get back here to pdx....Sara you are officially my tattoo person- I am expecting recommendations and your company sometime in February to get this bitch stamped on my body :)
