Ibaraki - "Ronin" featuring Gerard Way

Mar 25, 2022 14:27

The amount of ppl in the comments who are surprised by Gerard's ability to scream like this are perplexing to me. Apparently they don't know anything about MCR's pre-Revenge days.

Picturing current Gerard recording these black metal vocals has me in stitches though.

Not my cup of tea, but he kills it. The rest of the song puts me to sleep, tbh. Very stereotypical metal stuff...

TRIVIUM's Matthew Kiichi Heafy reveals the IBARAKI single "Rōnin" featuring guest vocals by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and Ihsahn (Emperor). Debut album, RASHOMON, out on May 6th, 2022 via Nuclear Blast Records.

BARAKI "RŌNIN" LYRICS
Featuring Gerard Way; Heidi, Ariadne, Angell,
& Ihsahn Tveitan Solberg

Still
I still feel you inside these broken bones
These scars are maps - legends foretold
My blade is weathered, covered with a coat
The blood of many I have poured

Down to the soil, my anger quenched the pain
Of ancient grounds that I have stained
The heads of many that will still be claimed
Are but warnings for the foes

Who try to capture everything of ours
Slaughtered people, slaves to starve
Skies, be my witness I will rid the earth
Of the scourge who took our blood

Standing on the plains
I am taken away
Carried through the gates
I will avenge my name
This rage shall not be tamed

Our lands are threatened by an invisible force
The concept of hatred: both spoken and verse
Plaguing the people - it poisons the mind
Teaching to hate that which is not their "kind"

Not one with the undead
Nor fodder for the live and fiending
I'm a challenger of every horde
That would try to live by loathsome reason

Take me back to the times when it was safe
Back where the rivers flowed, free by the lakes

Standing on the plains
I am taken away

Carried through the gates
I will avenge my name
This rage shall not be tamed

Our lives are challenged by an invulnerable swarm
They know only hatred, fear, and discourse
Gathering strength so that I may defeat
These monsters whose minds are corrupt with disease

Not one with the undead
Nor fodder for the live and fiending
I'm a challenger of every horde
That would try to live by loathsome reason

Take me back to the times when it was safe
Back where the rivers flowed, free by the lakes

Standing on the plains
I am taken away
Carried through the gates
I will avenge my name
This rage shall not be tamed

Guitar Solo: Ihsahn

Still
I still feel you inside these broken bones
These scars are maps - legends foretold
My blade is weathered, covered with a coat
The blood of many I have poured

Down to the soil, my anger quenched the pain
Of ancient grounds that I have stained
The heads of many that will still be claimed
Are but warnings for the foes

Who try to capture everything of ours
Slaughtered people, slaves to starve
Skies, be my witness I will rid the earth
Of the scourge who took our blood

Standing on the plains
I am taken away
Carried through the gates
I will avenge my name
This rage shall not be tamed

"'A rōnin is a masterless warrior," shares Kiichi. "The final two full compositions on Rashōmon see a significant shift musically. The album as a whole - with the exception of the intro and outro - is actually presented in chronological order of earliest written to latter-most. The actual guitar and bass tracks are a time-capsule of sorts in that their parts - on the final album - is actually from the year they were tracked."

He continues, "One can begin to see the shifts as the years went on for the writing of the album. 'Kagutsuchi'/'Ibaraki-doji' being written and tracked in 2010/2011, all the way up to 'Rōnin'/'Susanoo No Mikoto' being written and tracked in 2016/2017."

As for his collaboration with Way, Kiichi shares, "Gerard Way has been a long-time inspiration for me - like Ihsahn and Nergal - I have looked to Gerard as a constant source of motivation to be creative. While Gerard and I may be from different genres than where Ibaraki and black metal stem from - outsiders of sorts - the spirit and intent of our performances is what unites our passion for pushing boundaries."
