WTF Jared creating drama. Hard to believe he was not informed about this, but still. Confront Jensen privately. Not on SM to make the idiot fandom explode into chaos. *eye roll*

A Supernatural prequel series is on the way.

According to Deadline, The Winchesters -- a Supernatural prequel focusing on Sam and Dean Winchester's parents -- is currently in development at The CW with a script commitment. Supernatural co-lead Jensen Ackles is set to reprise his role as Dean, who will serve as the prequel series' narrator.

The Winchesters is executive produced by Jensen and Danneel Ackles (the latter of whom was also a recurring guest star on Supernatural) through their production company, Chaos Machine Productions, which entered an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group late last year. The prequel is written by another Supernatural alum, Robbie Thompson, who will also executive produce alongside the Ackleses.

Told from Dean's perspective, The Winchesters centers on the "epic, untold love story" of how John Winchester met his wife to be, Mary Campbell, and how the two "put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world." In Supernatural, John and Mary Winchester were played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith, respectively. Additionally, Matt Cohen played a younger version of John, while Amy Gumenick played a young Mary. That said, casting information for The Winchesters is not currently available.

"After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn't over. Because like we say in the show, 'nothing ever really ends, does it?'," said Ackles. "When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents' relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey."

Created by Eric Kripke (The Boys), Supernatural originally premiered on The WB (which would later become The CW) in 2005. Starring Ackles and Jared Padalecki as demon-hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, the series ran for 15 seasons, concluding its 327-episode run late last year. Should The Winchesters be ordered to series, both Ackles and Padalecki will officially be back at The CW, with the latter currently starring on the network's Walker reboot.

Supernatural’s Misha Collins Wants Castiel in the Winchesters Prequel

Misha Collins wants in on Jensen Ackles' Supernatural spinoff series, The Winchesters.

Collins, who played the angel Castiel on long-running CW series Supernatural alongside Ackles' Dean Winchester, responded to his former co-star's announcement of the prequel series on Twitter. "Seems like this show would benefit from a time-traveling angel-in-a-trenchcoat character. Just saying...," Collins said.

Collins first appeared as Castiel in Season 4 of Supernatural in 2008 and made his last appearance as the character in the show's 15th and final season. While Ackles is set to reprise his role as Dean Winchester in the prequel as the series' narrator, which is currently in development at The CW with a script commitment, no other casting information for The Winchesters has been revealed. The series will be written by another Supernatural alum Robbie Thompson, who also served as a producer and writer on the original series.

Told from Dean's perspective, The Winchesters will focus on Sam and Dean Winchester's parents, John and Mary Winchester, in the early days of their "epic, love story," and will follow the two characters as they "put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world." The series will be executive produced by Jensen and Daneel Ackles through their production company Chaos Machine Productions.

"When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story," Ackles said. "I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents' relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey."

Recently, Jared Padalecki, who played Dean's brother Sam Winchester in the CW series, stated that Ackles had not told him that a prequel series was in development. "Dude. Happy for you," Padalecki said to Ackles on Twitter. "Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I'm excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever." In response to a Supernatural fan's question about whether this exchange between the two actors was a "bad joke," Padalecki said, "No. It's not. This is the first I've heard about it. I'm gutted."

Created by Eric Kripke (The Boys) and starring Ackles and Padalecki as monster-hunting brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, Supernatural ran on The CW for 15 seasons, wrapping its 327-episode run on Nov. 19, 2020. All 15 seasons of Supernatural are currently streaming on Netflix.

Supernatural: Padalecki and Ackles' Feud Comes to a Heartwarming Conclusion

Following Supernatural star Jared Padalecki's disclosure that he was not contacted regarding the upcoming spinoff series The Winchesters, as well as a request for peace from upset fans, Padalecki and co-star Jensen Ackles have talked it out.

The former Supernatural co-star previously posted a series of Tweets detailing how he felt "gutted" when he found out about the show via Ackles' Twitter. Today, Padalecki asked fans not to harass those involved with the production. "Hey world. Thank you for the love," he said on Twitter. "Please PLEASE don't send any hate or threats. I care deeply about everybody involved and would be in true misery if any of them were harmed or threatened."

Shortly after, Padalecki shared that he and Ackles discussed the situation and came to an understanding. "[Jensen Ackles] and I had a great talk, as we often do, and things are good," said Padalecki in a pinned Tweet. "The show is early in the process with miles to go. We've traveled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don't stop us. Once brothers, always brothers. # spnfamily."

Ackles, who had not yet responded to the situation since the series was announced, responded with his appreciation for his co-star. "Love you [Jared Padalecki]," Ackles said. "Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you're busy…as am I, but you're still my brother. I miss you, pal."

The Winchesters, currently in early development at The CW, is produced by Jensen and Daneel Ackles, with the former reprising his role as Dean Winchester, who will serve as the show's narrator. The series is a prequel about Sam and Dean's parents, John and Mary Winchester. While Padalecki's followers remain disappointed that the actor had not been contacted regarding the spin-off, Supernatural fans can at the very least rest easy knowing the show's co-stars have reached an understanding that preserves their bond.
