Scott Snyder To Consult On DCYou Unscripted Pilot

Mar 02, 2020 14:12

Comic book writer Scott Snyder is best known for his work on Batman, as well as Dark Nights: Metal and Justice League; however he will soon be taking on a new avenue of media. During the DC Universe panel at C2E2, DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee announced Snyder will serve as a consultant on the upcoming DCYou Unscripted pilot Escape From Arkham.

Developed in conjunction with Ideas United, Escape From Arkham features six teams role-playing as henchmen to Batman's most famous villains as they attempt to escape Arkham Asylum. DC explains Snyder "will lend his expertise to the intricate puzzles, traps, and mazes that will challenge the players."

"This show will be fun, and there's all kinds of Easter Eggs," Snyder said at his brief appearance at the panel. "My job is to make sure it's evil enough and make sure fans find it an incredible interpretation for casual fans and long-time fans."

Escape from Arkham is one of three DCYou Unscripted series that will debut on DC Universe. DC’s Cosplay Clash is a competition that will have contestants making Wonder Woman 1984 themed costumes, while Cross Country Comic Shop will feature visits to comic book shops across the country.

Other announcements at the panel included Freddie Prinze, Jr. discussing more details about DC Universe’s first original unscripted gaming mini-series, DC UNIVERSE All-Star Games. Attendees were also treated to a sneak peek at the second season of the Harley Quinn animated series.

DC's DARK NIGHTS: DEATH METAL is the 'ANTI-CRISIS' - C2E2 '20

DC has revealed new details and art for its upcoming Dark Nights: Death Metal crossover from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo.

The series, a sequel to Snyder and Capullo's Dark Nights: Metal, will run for six issues starting in May, and will include a series of "Metalverse" tie-in one-shots to be announced.

Snyder called the story an "Anti-Crisis," saying rather than remake some aspect of DC continuity, it would reconcile DC's various eras into one narrative.

"The thing I'd say about Death Metal is it connects all the stuff you've read from Crisis on Infinite Earths through Doomsday Clock, and a couple more," Snyder explained at DC's 'Super Heroes of DC' panel during C2E2 2020 .

“I’ve been waiting to do this story since we finished Dark Nights: Metal,” Snyder added in a subsequent statement. “As much as it was a complete event, we left some threads hanging there for sure. I’d hoped that if people liked the first series enough, we’d have a chance to set up something bigger, and that’s our plan for Death Metal.”

“For all of us, Dark Nights: Death Metal is about the fun factor,” adds Capullo. “Comics should be fun, bombastic, and over-the-top. This series is going to be exciting and jam-packed with great ‘metal-esque’ moments that will make fans lose their minds when they see them.”

In Dark Nights: Death Metal, Perpetua has conquered Earth. Superman is imprisoned in a machine that powers the sun following the events of "Year of the Villain," while Batman lives in a sentient "Batcastle," leading a resistance army of zombies created by the Black Power Ring he now wields. And Wonder Woman meets someone who offers her the power to defeat the evil that now faces down the Justice League.

Other details of the series revealed during DC's C2E2 panel include a Bruce Wayne AI that inhabits the Batcave's famous Dinosaur, a Batman monster truck, and numerous Easter eggs and references to past DC stories.

“Dark Nights: Metal was an absolute game-changer for DC,” stated DC SVP and editor-in-chief Bob Harras. “It was a crazy roller-coaster ride that gave us not only the Batman Who Laughs, but a story that was so crazy over-the-top, it kept our readers on the edge of their seats with every issue, and I expect Scott, Greg, FCO, and Jonathan will tell a story with even higher stakes, and definitely more Joker dragons!”

Dark Nights: Death Metal #1 is due out May 13.
