Game of Thrones: Florence + the Machine Covers Podrick's Sorrowful Song

Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," was the calm before the storm. On the eve of battle, the series' most beloved characters shared intimate scenes that tugged at the heartstrings.
The quiet but foreboding episode was capped off by song, as Podrick sang a sorrowful rendition of "Jenny of Oldstones" to Tyrion, Jaime, Brienne and a few others in Winterfell's fire-lit hall.
As the episode came to a close, with the White Walker army just outside of the Stark's homestead, the end credits featured a cover of "Jenny of Oldstones" performed by popular indie rock band Florence + The Machine. The song was especially noteworthy because, before this episode, the end credits of every Game of Thrones episode have always featured the series' score, composed by Ramin Djawadi.
Following the episode's conclusion, HBO has now officially released the song on YouTube.
In a statement shared by Entertainment Weekly, creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss addressed the musical cover. "We’ve always been huge fans of Florence’s music, and the Season 2 trailer with her song 'Seven Devils' was possibly the most powerful we’ve ever had," creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said in a joint statement. "So the opportunity to hear her otherworldly voice on our show was always at the forefront of our minds. We’re still pleasantly shocked that she agreed to sing ‘Jenny of Oldstones,’ and we’re in love with the result."
"When I first heard the song it sounded like a Celtic lullaby to me," lead singer Florence Welch added. "Celtic music has always been in my blood, so I felt like I could do something with it. The magic and ritual in Game of Thrones, not to mention the costumes, have always appealed to me. I am honored to be a part of the final season."
The next episode of Game of Thrones will feature the long-awaited Battle for Winterfell, in which most of the series' main characters will take part in an epic battle to save the Northern kingdom from the White Walkers' onslaught.
Episode 3 of Game of Thrones Season 8 airs Sunday, April 28. The HBO drama stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark and Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
