Today AMC announced that Carter, creator of "The X-Files," will return to TV on the cable network with a concept not unfamiliar to him.
The new series is tentatively called "Area 51." Carter will both write and serve as executive producer. Based on the 2011 book "Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base," by Annie Jacobsen, the series will also have an executive producer in Gale Anne Hurd, who is already executive producer of "The Walking Dead."
Recently Carter developed another sci-fi entry, "The After," an Amazon original series pilot that premiered in February and is now also greenlit for full development.

I'll probably watch future episodes to see where it goes, but I'm not sure what it can offer that "Supernatural" hasn't already done or "Sleepy Hollow" isn't currently doing. It just seems like a series that should have came out years ago before all these other Biblical Apocalypse inspired shows popped up.
I am much more psyched for "Area 51". I kind of doubt it will deal directly with aliens... I'm guessing it'll be more realistic government conspiracies and coverups, but just the name of the base as the potential show title is enough to make it intriguing.
Also from the same source, I ran across these (most likely) fan-made trailers for seasons 1 and 2 of The X-Files and man, are they freaking compelling and well edited. Were I not already a longtime fan, I'd be sold on the show immediately after watching these.
