What a sick world.

I've been trying to sort of follow the trial of the man who beheaded Tim Mclean on the grey hound bus last summer. I find it so interesting for so many reasons. Maybe because its possibly one of the most bizzare, most brutal murders that's ever happened around here, and the fact that it was so close to where I live makes me really interested in it.

Well, I guess this week was the trial for Vince Li. After reading the article about how he brutally beheaded a man, then went on to EAT his body parts is enough to make anyone feel ill. But the fact that he might be getting away with this and won't be charged for murder makes me sick to my stomach. What kind of world do we live in? Because he was considered a "schzizo" and claimed "he heard the voice of God telling him to behead this man" makes him certifiably insane, and that is how he gets away with it. I think that is so wrong and disturbing, that the guy won't even get a criminal record. Instead, gets shipped off to some "insane asylum". I mean honestly, what is wrong with our justice system? Okay, so maybe he is insane. I mean, he would HAVE to be to do what he did, but that leads so many other questions. Why wasn't he on medication? If people knew he was insane, why wasn't he travelling WITH someone? The fact that he seems to feel no remorse for anything he did just makes me wonder what kind of world we live in. To think that his family has to live with knowing that this man ATE thier child's (or brother's, or friend's) body parts and decapitated his head to show everyone standing outside is some sort of pain that is unbearable to live with.

I know it says in the bible that you are supposed to forgive, and i'm sure in time, some sort of forgiveness might happen, but to let this guy plead insane is a free pass for him. It's not fair. Murder is murder. Whether you are insane or sane. It makes me wonder what kind of demons were in his head. It also makes me kind of scared to think about what other people are thinking. And the fact that if something like this happens again, the person responsible won't necessarily get penalized for it. It's wrong. We should all have consequences for our actions.
Our justice system makes no sense.
I feel bad saying this, but I really hope Vincent Li gets what he deserves. Whether or not he's punished properly on earth, he WILL be judged one day by a judge that really matters.

As for the families, my heart goes out to them so much. I can't begin to imagine how they feel. I only pray and hope that one day, they find peace and closure, and don't let their anger control thier lives.
